ThisdissertationexaminesclassidentificationintheUnitedStatesin
recentyears.Classidentificationisasignificant,yetoftenneglected,areaof
researchinthestudyofsocialstratification.Thisconceptreferstopeople's
senseoftheirlocationinthesociety'sclasshierarchy.Classidentification
influencespeople'sdecision-makingaboutwheretheylive,whotheymarry,what
worktheypursue,andhowtheyvote.Nearlytwodecadeshavepassedsince
thelastcomprehensivestudyofclassidentificationwaspublished.Sincethen,
muchhaschangedaboutclasshierarchyintheUnitedStates,including
significantgrowthintheproportionoflow-payingservicesectorjobs,acontinued
