About Ciudad Omega
Juan Gallardo Muñoz, nacido en Barcelona en 1929, pasó su niñez en Zamora y posteriormente vivió durante bastantes años en Madrid, aunque en la actualidad reside en su ciudad natal. Sus primeros pasos literarios fueron colaboraciones periodísticas —críticas y entrevistas cinematográficas—, en la década de los cuarenta, en el diario Imperio, de Zamora, y en las revistas barcelonesas Junior Films y Cinema, lo que le permitió mantener correspondencia con personajes de la talla de Walt Disney, Betty Grable y Judy Garland y entrevistar a actores como Jorge Negrete, Cantinflas, Tyrone Power, George Sanders, José Iturbi o María Félix. Su entrada en el entonces pujante mundo de los bolsilibros fue a consecuencia de una sugerencia del actor George Sanders, que le animó a publicar su primera novela policíaca, titulada La muerte elige, y a partir de entonces ya no paró, hasta superar la respetable cifra de dos mil volúmenes. Como solía ser habitual, Gallardo no tardó en convertirse en un auténtico todoterreno, abarcando prácticamente todas las vertientes de los bolsilibros —terror, ciencia-ficción, policíaco y, con diferencia los más numerosos, del oeste—, llegando a escribir una media de seis o siete al mes, por lo general firmadas con un buen surtido de seudónimos: Addison Starr, Curtis Garland (y también, Garland Curtis), Dan Kirby, Don Harris, Donald Curtis, Elliot Turner, Frank Logan, Glenn Forrester, John Garland (a veces, J.; a veces, Johnny), Jason Monroe, Javier De Juan, Jean Galart, Juan Gallardo (a veces, J. Gallardo), Juan Viñas, Kent Davis, Lester Maddox, Mark Savage, Martha Cendy, Terry Asens (para el mercado latinoamericano, y en homenaje a su esposa Teresa Asensio Sánchez), Walt Sheridan.
