CIC Doctoral Directory
Update, January 11, 2010 

The CIC Doctoral Directory is a listing of doctoral degree recipients from CIC 
universities who are members of groups underrepresented in higher education. 
The CIC Doctoral Directory is intended to aid hiring committees at CIC universities 
by helping them identify promising candidates for post‐doctoral and faculty 
positions.  The Directory also serves to increase the visibility of its doctoral alumni 
among prospective employers nationally. 

Eligibility 
Underrepresented groups include American Indians, African Americans, and 
Latina/Latinos in any field of study.  Asian Americans in social science and 
humanities fields are also eligible.  To qualify for inclusion, registrant must be a 
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident who completed a PhD, MLS, or MFA degree at 
one of the CIC member universities in any year.  Candidates who expect to 
complete the degree within one year are also eligible. 

Enrollments 
The Doctoral Directory includes information on 239 candidates and degree 
recipients.  Nearly one quarter (23%) of the listings represent science and 
engineering fields, and another 23% are in the humanities.  The remaining 54% of 
entries represent social science, education and other professional fields.  A brief 
listing of enrollments by CIC institution is attached, followed by a more detailed 
listing by broad disciplinary field.   

The web‐based Directory is continually updated and listings can be filtered and 
downloaded.  There is no charge to enroll in or to view/download the Directory.  It 
can be accessed online at www.cic.net/DoctoralDirectory. 

Promotion of the Directory   
The CIC headquarters sends regular announcements to staff groups in the CIC 
about this resource.  Campus contacts are asked to distribute the announcements 
among student groups and to academic units.   
Campus practices for promoting the directory vary, as indicated in the table below. 
CIC staff continue to work with campus contacts to incorporate the Doctoral 
Directory into their communications, to encourage candidates to enroll and to 
promote use of the Directory among hiring committees.
