Both sexesofthenewsp. aredescribed andillustrated. Holotype<J and allotype
9:China,Shaanxiprov.,Langaoco.,MtDubashan,alt. 1200m,28-VI1-2006;both
depositedwiththeShaanxiBioresourceKeyLaboratory,Hanzhong,China.Thepat-
ternofthe headand synthoraxaresimilar toC. miles (Laid!.), fromwhich thenew
sp. differsin patternofthetopoftheabdomen andin thestructureofanalappend-
agesandpenileorgan.
INTRODUCTION
The genusCalicnemia Strand is confinedto Asia andits distribution is cen-
tredinthe Himalaya range. Mostspecies occur in themontane forest habitats.
So far, 8 species havebeen reported fromChinaand wererecently reviewedby
YU & BU(2008), viz. C. chaoiWilson, C. erythromelas (Sel.), C. eximia(Sel.),
C. gulinensisYu &Bu, C. haksik Wilson& Reels, C. miles(Laidlaw), C.porcata
Yu& Bu,and C. sinensisLieftinck.
Thespecimens ofthenewspecies werecollectedby ourstudents. MoFa-xiang
and Wang Hao-jie, from the Dabashan mountain, located Sof Mt Qinling in
centralShaanxi, ontheborderbetweenthenortherntemperatezoneandthecool
subtropical zone, i.e.,ontheborderbetweenthePalaearcticandOrientalbiogeo-
graphical regions.
TheDubashanmountainisactuallysituatedwithintheOrientalRegion. Cali-
cnemiazhuaesp. n. maybe aspecies withthenorthernmostdistributionforthe
genus.

alt. 1200m,28-VI1-2006,Mo Fa-xiangleg. — Allotype S:samedata. — Paratype 9;samelocality,
30-VII-1987,WangHao-jieleg.The holotypeandallotypewillbedepositedwith theShaanxiBiore-
sourceKeyLaboratory,Hanzhong,China.
Etymology. — Thespeciesisdedicated toProfessor ZhuHui-qian(ShanxiUniversity,Tai-
yuan,China)*inrecognitionofher magnanimoussupportofourodonatologicalresearch.
MALE holotype. — Head (Fig. 1).- Labium,anteclypeus, postclypeus, man-
dibleand genae(upward to posterior ocelli) orange-yellow, apartfroman iso-
lated,transverse blackstripe atthebaseofantennae. Posteriortoocelli, occiput
and ventrum black withprominentyellow stripe at sides, lightlyyellow elongate
triangularlateralspoton outersidesofoculus.Thefirst twosegmentsofantenna
yellow; flagellum dark, orange-yellow tobrownish-black.
Thorax. - Prothoraxand synthorax black(Fig. 2),marked withorange
stripes. Prothorax witha circularyellow spot atsideof mid-lobe, adjacent to a
small yellow spot at scarf of synthorax. Isolatedorangeantehumeralstripes.
Metepisternum withthinyellowbandcrossing spiracle, thebandbroadestante-
riorlyandnarrowedposteriorly. Second suture withbroadblack stripes, therest
of metepimeron light yellow. Mesinfraepisternum andmetinfraepisternum dark
yellow, thinlypruinescent at underside.
Legs: coxa andtrochanter yellowish-brown, femurblack with yellow spot at
sub-base, tibiaouter sideorange,innersideblack. Tarsusandclaw darkorange-
yellow, clawat topblack.
Wings hyaline. Venationalcharactersas inthecongeners.Fw 18Px, 16inHw.
Pt. darkyellow, diamond-shaped, covering 1.5cells.
Abdomen.— Segment 1 light yellow atsides, dorsumblackwith terminal
black ring. Segments 2-10 red, segments 2-6withthin black terminalring, 7-10
terminalring notobvious,but gradually dull, redto darkorange.
Analappendages darkorange(Figs 3-5).Superiorsslightlylongerthansegment
10; tipobtuseandslightly curved downwards,andtwo hugeventro-basalteeth;
theinteriortoothflatwithseveral smallteeth, outertoothtapered inlateralview.
Inferiorsslightly longerthanthesuperiors, withslight ventro-basalprominence,
wideboot-shaped subapically andupwardly curved at tip.Vieweddorsally,anal
appendages are pincer-shaped; superiors slightly broadenedinmiddleinteriorly,
withdullteethat tip. Inferiorsbroadenedbasally atinnerside, withblack thorn
at tip(dorsal view).
Penileorgan(Figs6-7):terminallobeslightly concave, formingwingandslightly
curved ahead.

Measurements (inmm).— Abdomen +appendageslength30;hw length23.
FEMALE. - Similarto male.Differencesinclude:blackstripewidestatbaseof
antennaaroundocellus, formingdumbbellshape; yellowelongatetriangularspot
expanding at innersideof oculus, andjoined withyellow spot atbaseofman-
dibleand genae. Black shortstripes at sidesoforange-yellow anteclypeus. Yel-
low spotlargeratsides ofprothorax, butantehumeralandsecond suture black
stripe thinner.Segments 2-5 laterally yellowish, segments 8-10 darkerand dull
brownlaterally, almost black dorsally. Cerci black. Ovipositor brownish-black
and longer than segment 10. Legs pale, mainly yellow, outer femoraandclaws
black, tarsidarkyellow.

DISCUSSION
Basedon the structureof thepenile organ,LIEFTINCK(1984) dividedthe
genusintotwospecies-groups. In groupIthe recurved penis lobeis narrow, rib-
bon-likeorfilamentousapically,whereasingroupIIit isbroad,variouslyexpand-
ed andlacking filaments.Calicnemia zhuaesp. n.isreferableto groupII, butit
canbe distinguished fromtheotherspecies of thegroup(C. chaoi, C. haksik, C.
miles, C. miniata) bycolourpattern,andby thestructureofanalappendages and

penile organ. Thepatternofheadandsynthorax of thenewspecies are similar
to thoseof C. miles,from whichitis differentiatedby the patternofthe topof
abdomenand by structureof anal appendages andpenis (cf. FRASER, 1933;
L1EFTINCK, 1977;ASAHINA, 1985. 1997). Acomparison ofthetwo species
is presented inTableI.
