Fixando-se no interior paulista, na pequena Matão, teve atuação decisiva no cenário político e social da nascente cidade, sendo também reconhecido pelo extenso trabalho de caridade. Mas foram os 33 anos como espírita (de 1905 a 1938) que marcaram definitivamente seu nome na História. O jornal O Clarim, a Revista Internacional de Espiritismo, os livros e o pioneirismo inerente à sua personalidade o tornaram conhecido internacionalmente e influenciaram as gerações seguintes no trabalho inadiável da divulgação espírita.</p>
