ПРЕДИСЛОВИЕ
Материалы данного пособия направлены на приобретение знаний
делового английского языка в области коммерческой деятельности,
которые могут быть использованы в процессе устного общения.
Пособие состоит из девяти разделов (Section).
Section 1 знакомит с основной лексикой делового общения (в том
числе с фразами телефонного общения).
Section 2 посвящен чтению базовых текстов по основным темам
делового общения (с комментариями и вопросами для обсуждения).
Section 3 представляет собой диалогическую форму делового общения
в разных ситуациях. Некоторые упражнения рассчитаны на понимание
речи на слух.
Section 4 – это упражнения-обзоры на закрепление самой
минимальной, частотной бизнес-лексики в форме Close Test.
Section 5 – тренировочные лексико-грамматические упражнения.
Section 6 – интенсивная разговорная практика в виде занимательных,
познавательных тестов и т. п.
Sections 7, 8 полностью посвящены аудированию, причем Section 8 –
аудированию в форме Close Test.
Section 9 содержит ключи к заданиям разделов 3–5, 7–8.

A New Job
Read the text and answer the questions after the text.

In different countries, different conventions apply to the process of job
application and interviews. In most parts of the world, it's common to submit a
typed CV (curriculum vitae – British English) or resume (American English).
This contains all the unchanging information about you: your education,
background and work experience. This usually accompanies a letter of
application, which in some countries has to be handwritten, not typed.
A supplementary information sheet containing information relevant to this
particular job may also be required, though this is not used in come countries.
Many companies expect all your personal information to be entered on a
standard application form. Unfortunately, no two application forms are alike,
and filling in each one may present unexpected difficulties. Some personnel
departments believe that the CV and the application letter give a better
impression of a candidate.
Interviews may take many forms in business today: from the traditional
one-to-one interview, to panel interview where several candidates are
interviewed by a panel of interviewers, to 'deep-end' interviews where
applicants have to demonstrate how they can cope in actual business
situations. Moreover, the atmosphere of an interview may vary from the
informal to the formal and from the kindly to the sadistic. Fashions seem to
change quite rapidly in interview techniques and the only rules that applicants
should be aware of may be 'Expect the unexpected' and 'Be yourself!
In different countries, different trades and different grades, the salary that
goes with a job may be only part of the package: perks like a company car or
cheap housing loans, bonuses paid in a 'thirteenth month", company pension
schemes, generous holidays or flexible working hours may all contribute to
the attractiveness of a job.

The Place of Work

Read the text and answer the questions after the text.

There are many occasions on which you can be expected to talk about your
firm. This may include actually showing someone physically around the place
of work or premises. But it may more generally involve referring to the way in
which the company is organized and run.
Firms are a very important part of the economy. They are responsible for
producing goods and services. Businesses use materials and change them in
some way to produce goods or a service. Businesses come in every shape and
size. While the vast majority of the world's businesses are small, large firms
often dominate the economy in some countries. Indeed, the income of the
world's largest fifty industrial companies added together represents more than
half the total output of the United States.
Large businesses differ very much from small ones in a wide variety of
ways. In many countries there are both private firms and nationalized firms
belonging to the government. A small private firm may have just one owner
but a very large firm has thousands of shareholders.
In very large firms the owners have very little to do with the day-to-day
running of the firm. This is left to the management. Very large companies may
be organized into several large departments, or sometimes even divisions. The
organizational structure of some companies is very hierarchical with the board
of directors at the top and the various departmental heads reporting to them.
Often the only time shareholders can influence the board is at yearly
shareholders' meetings
Some firms may only produce one product or service. Others may produce
many different products: in fact they may seem to be like a collection of
