John Bickle is Professor of Philosophy and Adjunct Professor of
Psychology at Mississippi State University. He works in the area of philos-
ophy of neuroscience, and is the author of, among numerous publi-
cations, P sychoneural Reduction: The New Wave (1998), Philosophy and
Neuroscience: A Ruthlessly Reductive Approach (2003), and most recently,
Engineering the Next Revolution in Neuroscience (co-authored with Alcino
J. Silva and Anthony Landreth, 2013). He has also edited The Oxford
Handbook of Philosophy and Neuroscience (2009).
Nicolas B ullot is Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Research
Fellow in Philosophy of Cognitive Science at Macquarie University
(Sydney). His research investigates the ability to keep track and identify
agents and artifacts over time. His contributions to art theory attempt to
bridge the gap between the biological and cognitive sciences of aesthetic
appreciation and the historical approach to art behaviors prominent
in the humanities and social sciences. His psycho-historical research
program for the science of art led to the publication of his collaboration
with Rolf Reber as a target article in B ehavioral and Brain Sciences (vol.
36, “The Artful Mind Meets Art History,” 2013). He has received awards
from the Fulbright Program (USA), the University of British Columbia
(Canada), the CNRS (France), and the Australian Research Council.
Paco Calvo is Chair of the Department of Philosophy at the University
of Murcia, Spain. His main area of research is the philosophy of cogni-
tive science. He is the co-editor of the forthcoming The Architecture of
Cognition: Rethinking Fodor and Pylyshyn’s Systematicity Challenge (with
John Symons). His articles have been published in Adaptive Behavior ,
Cognitive Science, The British Journal for the Philosophy of Science , Mind &
Language , M inds and Machines, and P hilosophical Psychology, among other
journals.
Jean-Claude Dupont is Professor of Philosophy and History of Science
and a researcher at the CHSSC (Centre d’histoire des sciences, des sociétés
et des conflits) at the Université de Picardie Jules Verne (UPJV). His
primary areas of research are the history of neuroscience, of embryology,
and of pharmacology. He has published, among other books, H istoire de
la neurotransmission (1999), and recently L ’invention du médicament. Une
histoire des théories du remède (2013).

Luc F aucher is Professor of Philosophy at UQAM (L’Université du Québec
à Montréal). He has published widely in the philosophy of cognitive
neuroscience, psychiatry, and neuroscience, with edited volumes on
emotions, psychopathology, and neurophilosophy. His current project
is a monograph on race and racism in analytic philosophy.
Denis Forest is Professor of Philosophy at the University Paris-Ouest,
Nanterre, and an associate member of the Institut d’Histoire et de
Philosophie des sciences et des techniques (IHPST), Paris. His main area
of interest is the impact of the development of brain sciences on our
conceptions of human cognitive abilities. He is the author of H istoire
des aphasies (2005), and he has recently edited a volume on innateness,
L’innéité aujourd’hui (2013). He is currently writing a book which analyzes
various critiques of cognitive neuroscience.
Stephen G aukroger is Professor of the History of Philosophy and
the History of Science at the University of Sydney. His recent mono-
graphs are The Emergence of a Scientific Culture: Science and the Shaping
of Modernity, 1210–1685 (2006) and The Collapse of Mechanism and the
Rise of Sensibility: Science and the Shaping of Modernity, 1680–1760 (2010).
These are to be continued with a study of the naturalization of the
human and the humanization of nature, 1740–1845.
William H irstein is Professor of Philosophy at Elmhurst College, Illinois.
He is both a philosopher and a scientist, having published numerous
scientific articles, including works on phantom limbs, autism, conscious-
ness, sociopathy/psychopathy, and the misidentification syndromes.
He is the author of several books, including On the Churchlands (2004),
Brain Fiction: Self-Deception and the Riddle of Confabulation (2005), and
Mindmelding: Consciousness, Neuroscience, and the Mind’s Privacy (2012).
Warren Neidich is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist and writer. He
is recipient of the Fulbright Specialist Program Fellowship, University
of Cairo, 2013; the Murray and Vickie Pepper Distinguished Visiting
Artist and Scholar Award, Pitzer College, 2012; the Fulbright Specialist
Program Fellowship, Fine Arts Category, Faculty of Fine Arts – Ss. Cyril
and Methodius University of Skopje, Macedonia, 2011; and the Vilem
Flusser Theory Award, Transmediale, Berlin, 2010. Forthcoming publi-
cations in 2014 include Widerstand ist Fruchtbar and, as editor, The
Psychopathologies of Cognitive Capitalism, Part 2 .
Sarah Robins is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the University of
Kansas. Memory is her primary research interest, but she has related
interests in neuroethics, language learning, and tacit knowledge. She
has published in both philosophy and psychology.

Sigrid Schmitz currently holds the Chair of Gender Studies at the
University of Vienna, and was a visiting professor at the University of
Graz/Austria (2003), the Humboldt University of Berlin (2008), and
the University of Oldenburg, Germany (2009/2010). Her research and
teaching covers approaches in Gender & Science Technology Studies,
with particular focus in gender aspects in brain sciences and contem-
porary neurocultures, body discourses in neo-liberal societal changes,
and in feminist epistemologies. Her recent publications include “The
Neuro-technological Cerebral Subject: Persistence of Implicit and
Explicit Gender Norms in a Network of Change,” Neuroethics (vol. 5,
2012), Special Issue on N euroethics and Gender , and “Sex, Gender, and the
Brain – Biological Determinism versus Socio-cultural Constructivism,” in
Ineke Klinge & Claudia Wiesemann (eds) Gender and Sex in Bio-medicine:

Katrina Sifferd is Associate Professor in the Philosophy Department at
Elmhurst College, Illinois. Her research interests include criminal respon-
sibility and punishment, and the impact scientific theories of decision-
making or action should have on culpability. She obtained her PhD in
philosophy from King’s College, University of London. After leaving
King’s, Katrina held a post-doctoral position as Rockefeller Fellow in Law
and Public Policy and Visiting Professor at Dartmouth College. She is the
author of numerous articles and book chapters, including “In Defense
of the Use of Commonsense Psychology in the Criminal Law,” Law and
Philosophy (vol. 25, 2006), “The Legal Self: Executive Process and Legal
Theory,” C onsciousness and Cognition (vol. 20, co-authored with William
Hirstein, 2011), “Translating Scientific Evidence into the Language of
the Folk: Executive Function as Capacity-Responsibility,” in Nicole A.
Vincent (ed.) L egal Responsibility and Neuroscience, OUP series on neuro-

Jacqueline S ullivan is Assistant Professor in the Department of
Philosophy, Member of the Rotman Institute of Philosophy, and
Associate Member of the Brain and Mind Institute at Western University,
Ontario. She works primarily in the areas of philosophy of neuroscience
and empirically informed philosophy of mind. She is the author of
multiple recent journal articles that have appeared in Philosophy of
Science and S ynthese . She is also co-editor of the forthcoming C lassifying
Psychopathology: Mental Kinds and Natural Kinds (with Harold Kincaid).
John S utton is Professor of Cognitive Science at Macquarie University,
