the majority of the information in this book is from my memory of the times
I hae worked with Warren Lamb, first in the 1960s and more recently in
the 1990s. This is reinforced by the access gien to me to his personal
papers, and extensie discussions with him in recent months. Without his encour-
agement and consistent support this book would not hae been possible, and for
this I am deeply grateful.
I was also gien full cooperation and help at the two archies I used, that at the
National Resource Centre for Dance at the Uniersity of Surrey, and also at High
House, Dartington Hall, and to the archiists there I also extend my thanks.
Many other people hae helped with specific information and among them
I mention Dr Carol-Lynne Moore at the Uniersity of Surrey School of Perform-
ing Arts; Anita Hall, President of Action Profiling International and Bunny Martin,
Director of the Body Action Campaign. In particular I would like to thank play-
wright Ronald Harwood for his ery aluable adice.
It is exciting to use the Andy Warhol sketches and a great deal of energy went
into trying to trace them after all these years. Richard Philp, Executie Director
of Dance Magazine, and Marjorie King at the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburg
both were generous with their time in helping Warren Lamb and myself. I hope
they enjoyed the pursuit as much as we did.
Of the companies mentioned I approached two for help and I am grateful that
