FOREWORD
In a moment of astounding prescience, George Bernard
Shaw is said to have once remarked: “A photographer is
like a cod, which produces a million eggs in order that one
may reach maturity.”
No one could have put it better. Although Henri Cartier-Bresson came
close when he quipped: “Your first 10,000 photographs are your worst.”
Come to think of it, striking gold with the click of a button is not the
easiest of tasks. You’ve got to dig around for the perfect subject,
knowing fully well that finding one takes eternity. So you have to wait
and wait. And wait and wait.
Meanwhile, you dredge your mind for clues. Excavate shimmering
ideas for possibilities, using every tool you can lay your hands on.
You toss over the rubble of the nearly good and the almost there.
After prospecting to your soul’s content, one fine day, you see the
precious beauty.
You try to capture its glittering self in the most immaculate light. And
then you give it the 24-carat finish it truly deserves. At One Eyeland,
we spend all our lives searching, seeking and scouring for such gems.
We chase photographers from seven corners of the world. We tempt
them, taunt them, badger them and sweet talk them into sharing their
dearest images with us. Applying a ruthless filter called ‘exacting
standards’, we then handpick the ‘Best of the Best Photographers’.
The One Eyeland Book Volume 4 is an inspiring compilation of this
crème de la crème. Melted from a mighty corpus of 107000 uploaded
pictures, and forged from a staggering shortlist of 24500 images, the
golden collection is a showcase of 191 scintillating photographs worthy
of the yellow metal.

Book is a magical visual that lives up to the immortal observation of
Ansel Adams that the single most important component of a camera
