Abstract
ThisessayexplorestheIn-depthSystemicstreatmentanditsim-
pactonthestructuralmodificationofmental-somaticmodels
(patterns of thinking, feeling, and doing), and, as an exam-
ple, addiction therapy at start again, a professional drug therapy
center in Switzerland. In-depth Systemics is an approach, based on
compassion and empathy, to help other people help themselves. By
makinguseofasystematicandmethodologicallycontrolledmethod,
individualscometoquestiontheirownmentalmodelsandgradually
dissolve them. This serious undertaking aims at fostering personal
development and maturity. The focus is clearly on self-help assis-
tance—i.e., assisting others to realize their autonomy. The profound
confrontationofone’sownmentalmodels(e.g.,one’sownaddiction)
isrealizedbymeansofthetransformativepracticeofA¯n¯ap¯ana-satiand
Vipassan¯ameditation—awarenessandwisdom. Theapplicationofthe
In-depth Systemics approach, however, is not limited to professional
addictiontherapynortothefieldofpathologicaldeviancesorpsycho-
logicaldisorders. Aswellashelpingpeoplewithmentalproblems,it
canalsoassistthoseseekingpersonalgrowth—bothhavetotranscend
their mental boundaries. In-depth Systemics can thus be applied in
other fields and contexts: health care, case management, coaching,
maximizing athletic ability, personal leadership, etc.—as long as its
inherentlogicisadoptedproperly.
