TheAvocent®ACS800/8000AdvancedConsoleSystemservesasasinglepointforaccessandadministrationof
connecteddevices,suchastargetdeviceconsoles,modemsandpowerdevices.Consolesystemssupportsecureremote
datacentermanagementandout-of-bandmanagementofITassetsfromanylocationworldwide.
ThisguidedescribeshowtoaccessandnavigatetheCommandLineInterface(CLI) utilityandhowtouseitafterthe
consolesystemhasbeeninstalledandassignedanIPaddress.Forinformationonhowtoinstalloroperateyourconsole

1.1 Access Options andHow to Loginto the CLI
TheCLIutilitycanbeaccessedinthefollowingways:
• Throughalocalterminaloracomputerthathasaterminalemulationprogramconnectedtotheconsoleportof
theconsolesystemwithsessionsettingsof9600,8,Nand1,withnoflowcontrol.Thelocalconsolespeedcan
bemodifiedinthedevice'sbootconfiguration.
• AftertheconsolesystemisconnectedtothenetworkandhasanIPaddress,itcanbeaccessedbyoneofthe
followingmethods:
• AnSSHorTelnetclientonaremotecomputer(iftheSSHorTelnetprotocolisenabledintheselected
SecurityProfile)
• WiththeWebManager-Access-ApplianceViewerbutton
• WithDSViewmanagementsoftware
NOTE:FordetailsontheremoteaccessmethodsandIPaddressconfigurationoptions,seetheAvocent®

AdministratorshavefullaccesstotheCLIandtoconnecteddevices.Anadministratorcanauthorizeregularuserstoaccess

howtoselectanoptioninthewebmanageruseadashsurroundedbytwospaces( -).IntheCLI,twosimilaroptionsina
pathareseparatedbyaforwardslash(/).
Forexample,inthewebmanager,userconfigurationisdonewhenanadministratorselectsUsers-LocalAccounts-User
NamestogettotheUserNamesscreen.TonavigatetotheequivalentconfigurationlevelintheCLI,anadministratorwould
usethecdcommandfollowedbythepath:cd/users/local_accounts/user_names.
AdministratorsshouldlogintotheCLIinonewindowandlogintothewebmanagerinanotherwindowtoseehowthemenu
optionsinthewebmanagermaptothenavigationoptionsintheCLI.ConfigurationwiththeCLIalsorequiresmasteryof
