La serie trata de las andanzas, por los mares del Caribe del siglo XVII, cuando en el imperio español no se ponía el sol, de un Grande de España, caballero de Santiago, Don Diego de Villegas, Marqués de Castro, apodado el Corsario Azul, debido a que sobre su austera indumentaria de la orden, llevaba una capa azul y se tocaba con chambergo de vistosa pluma azul. Este veterano de las gestas de Flandes, Italia y el Mediterráneo, era capitán de «El Antillano», un enorme galeón de cuarenta cañones, con el que intentaba limpiar las rutas comerciales de bucaneros y proscritos y se acompañaba de una tripulación de lujo. Juan Pérez de Lerma, salmantino, alférez de alabarderos; un gigantón vasco, Martín de Ochando, piloto del Antillano; el contramaestre andaluz, Vicente de Azogue; el sargento alemán de arcabuceros, Gustavus Leyden; el siciliano Luigi Matholi, a cargo de los artilleros y el catalán Pedro Fajeda, como hombre de confianza del Corsario Azul. La serie no paso de los doce números y tuvo una secuela, la publicación de varias historias gráficas del personaje, en las páginas de la revista El Coyote. La revista Barsoom, en su número 6, presenta un magnífico ensayo sobre el Corsario Azul, a cargo de Nacho Martínez Ruiz.
