Areti Adamopoulou is Assistant Professor in Art History at the Univer-
sity of Ioannina, Greece. She has published widely on twentieth-century
Greek art, with a particular emphasis on the post-war period.
Jan Baetens is Professor of Literary and Cultural Theory at the Institute
for Cultural Studies of the University of Leuven. His research interests
focus on new media and on the relation between image and narrative.
Recent books include studies of Hergé and of the bande dessinée, as well
as contemporary photography of the Low Countries.
Elka Bakalova is Professor of Byzantine and Medieval Art at the New
Bulgarian University (Sofia) and corresponding member of the Bulgar-
ian Academy of Sciences. She is the editor of Problemi na izkoustvoto (Art
Studies) a quarterly journal of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and has
published widely on the medieval art of Bulgaria and the Balkans.
Wojciech Bałus is Professor of Art History at the Jagiellonian University
of Cracow. His research interests are centred on nineteenth and twentieth-
century painting and architecture. Books include studies of nineteenth-
century architecture and public space in Cracow, and nineteenth-century
Polish religious painting.
Milena Bartlová is Professor of Art History at the Academy of Art in
Prague. She is author of numerous books and articles on medieval Bohe-
mian art and architecture, and she has a particular interest in nationalism
in the historiography of medieval art.
Hans Dam Christensen is Head of Research at the Royal School of Library
and Information Sciences, Copenhagen. His research interests are centred
on the relation between art history and visual culture, and museology in
the Nordic countries.
Wilfried van Damme is Lecturer in Art History at the University of
Leiden. His research deals with African art and world art studies, with a
particular focus on anthropology and anthropological aesthetics.
