YOUTH APPRENTICESHIP PROJECT CAPTURES STUDENT INTEREST
The YouthApprenticeshipProject(YAP)-apilotprojectdesignedtohelpstudentsin Grades 7to 12explorecareersin the
trades-ishavingan impactonprogram developmentfortheprovince. DevelopedbyAlberta ApprenticeshipandIndustry
Training(AIT), inpartnershipwith Alberta Educationandthe Northern Alberta DevelopmentCouncil, YAPisdesignedto
encourageyouth toconsidera careerin thetradesandagriculture in theirhomecommunities.
SomeofYAPstudents'sdiooldaysarespentinthefield,jobshadowingindividuals StudentswhojoinYAPinGrade7canmoveontoRAPinGrade9,oneyearearlier
inavarietyofcommunitybusinessesandindustries.Therestofthestudents’time thanotherstudents.
