SITE PREPARATION
This document contains the information necessary for the preparation of a site conforming to Teradata Corporation
specifications.
• It is very important that the site complies with the requirements specified in this document because, once the
equipment has been installed, deficiencies in site preparation or the problems caused by these deficiencies are much
more difficult to detect and correct.
• Failure to comply with these requirements or take proper steps to protect equipment against risks identified in this
document may cause serious damage to the equipment and to the customer's business.
• In addition to the need to comply with the requirements specified, electrical wiring and mechanical systems must also
comply with all relevant codes, laws, and regulations.
• It is important that the site be prepared by a customer or his agent who is fully conversant with the special requirements
of electronic equipment.
• The responsibility for ensuring that the site is prepared in compliance with this document remains with the customer.
For information and guidance purposes only, a list is provided, in general terms, of these matters for which the customer is
responsible. This list is not intended to be comprehensive, and in no way modifies, alters, or limits the responsibility of the
customer for all aspects of adequate site preparation.
Teradata staff will be available to answer questions relating to the contents of this document, except where:
• The customer has been notified that a full or partial consultant service is available and/or that Teradata will be willing
to undertake a preliminary or final site survey, and
• The customer shall have entered into a formal contract with Teradata for provision of the same.

to give advice. Problems caused by a customer’s failure to meet any of the site prep requirements may result in Teradata
doing any, or all, of the following:
• Charging the customer for additional services
• Reclassifying a reported problem priority

Finally, only the customer can know the full extent of damage which may be caused to his business by reason of failure of
equipment which is to be installed. For this reason it is the customer's responsibility to ascertain the extent of any such
possible damage to his existing or planned business, and to effect full insurance in respect of it.
CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES
The customer must do or provide the following:
• When required by Teradata, provide the Teradata customer service representative with appropriate drawings that
indicate:
• Location of the equipment
• Site wiring (power and signal, paths and lengths)
• Location of other equipment capable of generating electrical noise, electromagnetic interference, heat, etc.
• Make building alterations necessary to meet wiring and other site requirements.
• Provide and install all communications cables, wall jacks, special connectors, and associated hardware.
• Make sure all applicable codes, regulations, and laws (including, but not limited to, electrical, building, safety, and
health) are met.
• Provide and install auxiliary power or other equipment as required.
• Make sure the environmental requirements of the system/unit are met.
• Provide floor coverings and environmental systems that limit or control static electricity build-up and discharge.
• Allow Teradata ServiceConnect remote connectivity.
AC POWER LINE TRANSIENT PROTECTION
In the process of power distribution, transient electrical energy (including, but not limited to, lightning strikes, intermittent
short circuits, and switching transients) can be introduced on to power lines. Such transient energy can be very damaging
to electronic hardware and can also cause data corruption.
Under these circumstances, Teradata Corporation recommends the use of AC power transient suppressors and data
(communication) line transient suppressors. Such protective devices are intended to guard against power and data line
transients that can result in hardware damage and various system or program errors.
Improvement of any deficiencies in power quality is a customer responsibility. Malfunction and/or component failure as a
result of power quality problems are/is not covered by Teradata Maintenance Agreement. Teradata Corporation accepts
no liability for any such occurrence nor for its consequences.
DATA LINE TRANSIENT PROTECTION
The nature of the transient phenomenon may extend to the data communication lines connected to this equipment. It is the
responsibility of the customer to install and connect a data line transient suppression system to correct or prevent any
deficiencies. Malfunction and/or component failure as a result of data quality problems are/is not covered by the Teradata
Maintenance Agreement. Teradata Corporation accepts no liability for any such occurrence or for its consequences.

Product Information
Product Description
The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 platforms deliver an enterprise-ready appliance solution for storing,
managing, refining, and analyzing big data, comprised of structured, unstructured, and semi-structured data. The
appliance combines Hadoop and Aster Database software with best-in-class Teradata platform hardware.
The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 platforms can be configured to contain only nodes for Hadoop, only Aster
nodes, or a combination of nodes for Hadoop and Aster nodes. The cabinets can also contain generic TMS servers,
Viewpoint TMS servers, and SAS HPA worker nodes in any combination. Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 nodes
can coreside in the same cabinet.
Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance 5 nodes, Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 5 nodes, and Teradata Appliance for
Hadoop 6 nodes can be installed in the same cabinet. For further details about these nodes, see the respective Platform
Product and Site Preparation Guide.
The minimum configuration for a Hadoop cluster for HDP 2.3 or later Base consists of six nodes for Hadoop:
• Three Master Nodes for Hadoop
• Three Data Nodes for Hadoop
The minimum configuration for a Hadoop cluster for HDP 2.3 or later Plus consists of seven nodes for Hadoop:
• Three Master Nodes for Hadoop
• Three Data Nodes for Hadoop
• One Edge Node for Hadoop

The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 platforms are offered with the following software:
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 (SLES 11 SP1) operating system can be used with TDH 2.1.
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 (SLES 11 SP3) operating system can be used with HDP 2.3 through 2.6.
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2-STND (SLES 12 SP2-STND) operating system can be used with HDP 2.6 or later.
The software includes the Teradata Connector for Hadoop (TDCH), which provides high-performance bi-directional data
movement between a Teradata system and a Hadoop system.

see the Teradata Aster® Big Analytics Appliance guides.

Management machines (VMs):
Server (VMS) • CMIC -- The CMIC provides server management services for the system cabinets.
• SWS -- The SWS is the service entry for the system.
• Viewpoint -- The Viewpoint VM manages only a single Hadoop cluster or a single Aster cluster.

An Intel R1208 VMS is available in System VMS and Cabinet VMS configurations. Each Teradata
Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 cabinet and InfiniBand switch cabinet contains a System or Cabinet
VMS.
Each System VMS consists of:
• CMIC, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs. The Viewpoint VM can support up to 128 nodes and servers.
• Two 2.0 GHz six-core 15MB L3 cache E5-2620 processors, dual socket
• 64 GB memory using 8 GB DIMMs
• Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for boot/system operations
• Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for Viewpoint data storage (optional)
• Onboard connectivity to server management network
• Onboard or adapter connectivity to customer network
• OS: Linux SLES 11 OS on VMS, CMIC VM, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs
Each Cabinet VMS consists of:
• CMIC VM
• One 2.0 GHz six-core 15MB L3 cache E5-2620 processor, dual socket
• 32 GB memory using 8 GB DIMMs
• Two 600 GB RAID 1 drives for boot/system operations
• Onboard connectivity to server management network
• Onboard or adapter connectivity to customer network
• Linux SLES 11 OS on VMS and CMIC VM
Server Server management functions run on the CMIC VM (on a VMS). The CMIC hosts the SMWeb Services
Management Home page and provides applications and services for server management on an MPP system:
Web (SMWeb) • Server Management Client: Monitor status, display events, and perform commands from a single
Services operational view of the system.
• Command Line Interface: Download remote command line interface utilities
• Save and Restore: Download, upload, and view configuration files
• Users and Groups: Manage user and group security levels
• Network, Devices, and CMICs: Configure the server management network and device
management
• External Connections: Configure settings for communication to the Service Workstation (TVI
connection) and the Viewpoint server (Teradata Alerts)
For use by customer on-site staff members, Teradata Services Analysts in the Global Support Center
(GSC), and Teradata Customer Service Representatives.
NOTICE
SMWeb and Teradata ServiceConnect are required for Teradata systems. Teradata
Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 platforms require SMWeb 11.02 or later.
For information about using SMWeb Services, see the Teradata Server Management Web Services
User Guide, or the online help on the SMWeb Services home page.
Enterprise Dell R720 server that hosts the Viewpoint portal containing portlets for customer management of
Viewpoint the system database. Systems that have more than 128 nodes require dedicated enterprise Viewpoint
Server hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). The enterprise Viewpoint hardware
can reside in a Hadoop/Aster cabinet or in a Platform Framework Cabinet.

• Two or four AC feeder boxes inside the cabinet. Available AC feeder box types:
◦ Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A. Each cabinet has four AC feeder
boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of four power cords per cabinet.
◦ Three-phase Delta AC feeder box with a plug rated at 60A. Each cabinet has two AC feeder
boxes; each AC feeder box has one power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet.
◦ Three-phase Wye 230V L-N AC feeder box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and
rated at 32A for Europe. Each cabinet has two AC feeder boxes; each AC feeder box has one
power cord for a total of two power cords per cabinet. For use in North America, this AC feeder
box requires a specialized data center with power wired like a data center in Europe.
InfiniBand switch cabinet:
• Two AC boxes of the same type per cabinet, mounted side by side at the bottom of the cabinet.
• For cabinets with 108-port, 162-port, or 324-port switches, the AC box type is a single-cord AC
box with a plug rated at 30A for North America and rated at 32A for Europe. The plug is used
for both single-phase (220-240V line-to-neutral) or phase-to-phase (208V) connections. Each
cabinet has two AC boxes; each AC box has one power cord for a total of two power cords
per cabinet.

Cabinet Descriptions
The Teradata Appliance for Hadoop 3 and 4 platforms are made up of a combination of cabinet types, depending on
the system configuration:
• Base processing/storage cabinet
Contains three to eighteen nodes, server management switches, InfiniBand network switches, a System virtualized
management server (VMS), power hardware, and a keyboard/video/mouse (KVM) chassis.
• Expansion processing/storage cabinet

Contains up to eighteen nodes, server management switches, SAS HPA worker nodes, a Cabinet VMS, and power
hardware.
• InfiniBand cabinet
◦ The 108-port InfiniBand switch cabinet contains two 108-port InfiniBand switches for redundancy. The cabinet
can also contain one optional System VMS and KVM, and one or two optional TMS servers.
◦ The 162-port and 324-port InfiniBand cabinets are paired for redundancy, with one InfiniBand switch per cabinet.
The 162-port InfiniBand cabinet can also contain one optional Cabinet or System VMS, one KVM if a System VMS
is included, and one to three optional TMS servers.
AC boxes in the cabinet provide power. Ethernet switches provide server management functionality.
• Platform Framework Cabinet (PFC)
The PFC can contain any combination of channel servers, ECS servers, TMS servers, SAS HPA worker nodes, and
other switches. The PFC can also be used to support system configurations that require a dedicated Service
Workstation server. Other chassis in the cabinet provide power and server management functionality.
This guide refers generally to the Platform Framework Cabinets that may be part of your system. For more
information, see the Teradata Platform Framework Cabinet Model 12 Product and Site Preparation Guide for the PFC
cabinet delivered with your system. Teradata product and site preparation documentation can be accessed at:

Cabinet Builds for Hadoop
Cabinet Build Conventions
The placement of the hardware components in a cabinet follows these general cabinet build conventions:
• All chassis except the top Ethernet switches are loaded from the front of the cabinet, and accessible from both
front and rear of the cabinet. The top Ethernet switches are loaded and accessible only from the rear of the cabinet.
• Each chassis has a standard position in the cabinet, and is numbered from the bottom up.
• Chassis can be managed, monitored, or unmanaged.
◦ Managed chassis are connected to the primary server management network by an Ethernet port on the
chassis. Chassis with a second Ethernet port are connected to the secondary server management network.
Managed chassis are actively monitored by server management and allow service personnel to manage
various chassis functions through SMWeb Services.
◦ Monitored chassis are connected to server management through a customer network and are subject to
customer network configuration and availability. Monitored chassis are actively monitored by server
management but service personnel cannot manage chassis functions through SMWeb Services.
◦ Unmanaged chassis are not connected to the primary or secondary server management networks. The chassis
are not monitored by server management and service personnel cannot manage chassis functions through
SMWeb Services.
• Chassis that are managed or monitored over the server management network have assigned chassis ID numbers.
The chassis ID number identifies the chassis by position/type in the server management interface.
• Unmanaged chassis can be numbered by position for cabling purposes only. If numbered, the numbers do not
appear in the server management interface as identification of the chassis.
• Hadoop cabinets have a variety of configurations. The number and type of chassis in a base or expansion cabinet
depends, in part, on the type of power used for the Hadoop cabinet. Cabinet builds in the following sections are
divided into type A power and type B, C, or D power. For definitions of these power types, see the Platform
Features Summary in the Product and Site Preparation Guide.
