Cover photo illustrates the interaction of the hapten (neuroleptic drug haloperidol with striped balls)

was generated on an IBM PC/AT using a molecular modeling program called MOLDISP. which
was written by Michael B. Bolger.

Preface
The pre-congress satellite symposium "Anti-Idiotypes as Probes for-the Study
of Receptors" was held at the Chateau Montebello, in Quebec, Canada, June
28 through July 1, 1986, in conjunction with the Sixth International Congress
of Immunology in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. More than fifty scientists partic
ipated in a very intensive exchange of new ideas and discussion of diverse systems.
The symposium consisted of formal presentations, poster sessions, and even a
limerick contest (if memory serves us correctly it was Glen Gaulton who was
voted as most creative for his "penetrating" version of an anti-idiotypic limerick).
This volume represents the written results of the participants. We had hoped
that this diverse groups of scientists, each individually interested in different
kinds of receptors, but collectively interested in the anti-idiotypic molecular
mimicry approach, would not be hesitant in an exhaustive mutual sharing of
ideas, concepts, and strategies. Our experiences at Montebello proved positive
and the contributions to this volume bear witness to this. A number of collab
orations and friendships were formed at Montebello and we anticipate more to
follow in the years to come. We would like to express our sincere thanks for
