As we usher in 2013, let me start by wishing you all
a Happy and Prosperous New Year! I hope that you
don’t have reason to look back at 2012 with any regret.
But, if you do look back and have some regrets, I hope that you are able to take
the necessary steps to ensure that the same will not be said at the end of this
year.
Since the last newsletter issue, our membership number increased by four new
members, Antonello Fadda, Tjerk Neijmeijer, Jamie Rego, and Peter Rego (the
latter two joined at the Fish Show). Welcome to the Club! It is always pleasing
to welcome new members to the club. As with any organization, you get out
what you put in so I hope that their time with the Club will be an enjoyable and
rewarding experience.
Our last meeting in November was a social gathering at Peter Marsh’s home. I
provided Amphilophus lyonsi fry to any member interested in the start of a grow-
out competition. Fourteen (14) members were provided between 10 to 12 fry to
grow out. To my knowledge, this is the first time A. lyonsi have been available in
Bermuda as it is listed as a rare fish. At the AGM in March we will find out who is
the grow-out competition winner.
This month we will be hosting visiting speaker Robert (Bob) Allen from Utah who
will be giving a talk on Lake Tanganyika on Friday, January 18th at the Aquarium
classroom. Bob comes highly recommended by our close club friend and
favorite Rusty Wessel.
This year promises to be a great year for the club! This is the club’s 25th
anniversary year and as far as speakers go, I have lined up speakers for the
array of different interests members have. To date, the four speakers that
have been lined up are eagerly anticipating the visit to our club. This year
will see a renowned plant speaker; a major Florida fish farm exporter; and a
world recognized fish collector, speaker and author visit our shores. Also this
year, there are plans afoot for a mega fish auction in celebration of our 25th
anniversary with all of the proceeds going to a fish related charity.
So, I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting in January and your
continued support of the club for 2013.
