A home was destroyed in a 
fire Monday morning, displac-
ing three adults and one child 
in Wedgefield.
The Sumter Fire Depart-
ment responded to a property  ssaaccrriiffiiccee
on S.C. 261 South just before 7 
a.m., where a single-wide mo-
bile home was burning, ac-
cording to an incident report. 
Firefighters found there had 
been an electrical short behind 
the dryer, starting the blaze at 
the appliance before spreading 
throughout the kitchen and 
living room.
About $15,000 in damage to 
the structure and $5,000 worth 
of contents in the home were 
reported lost. Nothing was re-
ported to have been saved.
The American Red Cross re-
sponded to the scene to pro-
vide the residents with assis-
tance.
