INTRODUCTION

AMENDMENT PURPOSE

To consider an Amendment to the City’s Local Planning Scheme No 3 to
place more stringent controls on ‘Ancillary Accommodation’ (i.e. Granny Flats)
within the area the subject of Schedule 9 (Restrictive Covenants) of the
Scheme.

BACKGROUND

Council’s primary concern is that the integrity of the Restrictive Covenant area
(i.e. protecting the single residential nature of the built form) may be eroded
should Ancillary Accommodation be permitted without specific control of the
appearance of such accommodation. The Restrictive Covenant area
principally covers the low density areas (R10 and R12.5) of the suburbs of
Coolbinia, Menora and Mt Lawley. It is not intended to prohibit Ancillary
Accommodation in this area, but rather control its appearance.
