Campbell jr. in den vierziger Jahren zu einem Magazin, in dem die meisten der Golden Age-Klassiker der Science Fiction veröffentlicht wurden. Von Isaac Asimov bis Clifford D. Simak, von Robert A. Heinlein bis A. E. van Vogt, von Theodore Sturgeon bis Hal Clement - kaum ein großer Name des Golden Age, der nicht aufs engste mit der Geschichte von Analog/Astounding verknüpft ist. Dieses Magazin hat die Entwicklung der Science Fiction über Jahrzehnte hinweg maßgeblich beeinflußt, und viele heute berühmte SF-Erzählungen und - Romane wurden sogar nach Anregungen von John W. Campbell jr. geschrieben. Wie kraftvoll dieses Magazin mit seiner über fünfzigjährigen Geschichte auch heute noch ist, soll dieser erste Auswahlband mit Geschichten aus den Jahren 1980/81 unter Beweis stellen. Der Band präsentiert zwei längere Erzählungen von Poul Anderson und Charles L. Harness sowie drei Kurzgeschichten von Rudy Rucker, Charles Sheffield und Timothy Zahn.</p> <p>Analog gewann achtmal den HUGO als bestes SF-Magazin.
