A Secret Mission
“Hey! Stop! STOP!”
Wildly waving his arms, Gully chased the bus, but
it disappeared around the corner.
“Too late, Amy!” he called to his younger sister.
“We’ll have to get Dad to take us.”
“He got pretty mad last time, Gully.”
“Yeah, but this wasn’t our fault. C’mon, hurry!”
Rarf! Ruff! Mr. Dryfi eld’s basset hound Elmer
yelped as they sped past his yard. He ran the entire
length of the fence, as if trying to follow them on some
exciting adventure.
Reaching home, they burst through the kitch-
en door. Mr. Trent peered over his newspaper. “Not
again.”
“The bus came early, Dad.” Gully was breathing
heavily. “We were there on time.”
