About AMTA2014Proceedings PEWorkshop Final
This study analyzed the performance of translation trainees who post-edited Spanish to English machine translation output. The trainees were divided into two groups: native English speakers and native Spanish speakers. Both groups received the same training in post-editing. They were asked to post-edit 30 sentences and their work was analyzed for accuracy errors (mistranslations and omissions) as well as language errors (grammar and syntax). The results showed that some Spanish-speaking trainees corrected as many errors as the English speakers. Spanish speakers also outperformed English speakers in identifying mistranslations and omissions. The best performers in both groups made similar corrections to grammar and syntax errors.
