Installing the ALM Microsoft Excel Add-in
BeforeyouinstalltheALMMicrosoftExcelAdd-in,makesurethatMicrosoftExcelisinstalledonyour
machine.
Note:Toinstallthisadd-inforallusers,youmustloginwithadministratorprivileges.
ToinstalltheALMMicrosoftExcelAdd-in:
1. CloseMicrosoftExcel.
2. UninstallanypreviousversionsoftheALMMicrosoftExcelAdd-in.Touninstall,chooseStart>
Settings>ControlPanel>Add/RemoveProgramsandfollowtheinstructionsonyourscreen.
3. UninstallanypreviousversionsoftheALMMicrosoftExcelAdd-in.Touninstall,chooseStart>
ControlPanel>Programs> ProgramsandFeaturesandfollowtheinstructionsonyourscreen.
4. InALM,selectHelp>Add-instoopentheALMAdd-inspage.
5. ClicktheAdd-insforMicrosoftApplicationslink.
6. ClicktheMicrosoftExcellink.Followtheon-screeninstallationinstructionstodownloadtheadd-
in.
7. AfteryouinstalltheExcelAdd-in,configureyourMicrosoftExcelsecuritysettings.Formore
informationonconfiguringExcelsecuritysettings,refertotheMicrosoftExceldocumentation.
8. BeforeyouusetheExcelAdd-inforthefirsttimeonyourmachine,youmustdownloadtheALM
client.NavigatetotheALMloginscreen,andtheappropriatefilesaredownloadedtoyour
machine.
9. IfyouupgradetoanewversionofMicrosoftExcelafterinstallingtheALMMicrosoftExcelAdd-
in,youmustperformanadditionalsteptoworkwiththisadd-in.Formoreinformation,see
"AdditionalStepafterUpgradingMicrosoftExcel"onpage1.

Beforeyoucanuploadrequirements,tests,anddefectsfromExceltoALM,youmustformatthedata.
Guidelines for formatting
Whenformattingrequirements,tests,ordefectsinyourExcelworksheet,considerthefollowing:
Arrangetherecordsthatyouwanttouploadinrows.
l
Foreachfieldthatyouwanttoupload,designateacolumn.Makesuretoincludealltherequired
l
fieldsforrequirements,tests,anddefects,asdefinedinyourALMproject.
YoucanmanuallymapALMfieldstoworksheetcolumns,ortheMicrosoftExcelAdd-incan
l
automaticallymapthem.Toenableautomaticmapping:
IncludeaheaderrowwithheadingnamesthatareidenticaltotheALMfieldnames.
l
Theautomaticmappingscanstheheaderrowformatchingfieldsuntilthefirstemptycell.Make
l
surenottoleaveemptycellsintheheaderrow.
Makesurethateachrequirement,test,ordefectcontainsdataforalltherequiredfields,asdefined
l
inyourALMproject.Fordetailsaboutthesystemanduserfieldsdefinedinyourproject,seethe
informationaboutcustomizingprojectsintheMicroFocusApplicationLifecycleManagement
AdministratorGuide.
TouploadmultiplevaluestoALMfieldsthatsupportmultiplevalues,separatethevalueswitha

semicolon(;)character.
FielddatamustnotexceedthefieldsizeinALM.
l
DataintendedforALMfieldsthathaveselectionlistsmustmatchtheentriesinthoseselectionlists
l
exactly.Forexample,thePriorityfieldcanacceptonlyoneofthefollowingvalues:5-Urgent,4-Very
High,3-High,2-Medium,or1-Low.
OnlyplaintextandhyperlinksareuploadedtoALM.Anygraphicsareignored,andformattingis
l
removed.
Youcanuploadattachmentsforrequirements,tests,ordefects.Formoreinformation,see"Format
l
attachments"onpage 12.
Youcanuploaddesignstepsfortests.
l
Youcannotuploadinformationindirectlyrelatedtorequirements,tests,ordefects.Forexample,if
l
uploadingtests,youcannotspecifytherequirementscoveredbyeachtest.
However,ifyoumodifyoraddtestsinExcelanduploadthedataagaintoALM,theexistingtests
areupdatedinthetestplanmodule,andanytestcoveragetorequirementsispreserved.
Eachrequirement,test,ordesignsteponthesamehierarchicallevelmusthaveauniquename.Ifa
l
nameisnotunique,itwillbeoverwritten.Forexample,ifyourworksheetcontainstwo
requirementsonthesamehierarchicallevelwiththesamename,onlyoneiscreated.

BeforeyouuploadyourrequirementstotheALMRequirementsmodule,youformattherequirements
inyourworksheet.
Toformatarequirement:
1. OpenyourExcelworksheet.
2. Defineeachrequirementonaseparaterow.Foreachrequirement,youmustdefineallrequired
fieldsasdefinedinyourALMproject.
Considerthefollowingpointswhenformattingrequirements:
Requirement Youcanassignasinglerequirementtypetoyourrequirements,oryour
types requirementscanincludemultiplerequirementtypes.Iftheyincludemultiple
types:
l DesignateaRequirementTypecolumn.Foreachrequirement,specifythe
requirementtype.
Foreachrequirement,includedatafortherequiredfieldsofthespecific

Child Tocreateachildrequirement,addaPathcolumntotheExcelworksheet.Inthe
requirements Pathcolumn,typethepathunderwhichtherequirementiscreated.Separate
eachhierarchicallevelwithabackslash(\)character.Makesurenottousea
forwardslash.IfthehierarchydoesnotexistinALM,thehierarchyiscreated
alongwiththerequirements.
TargetCycle l IfyouenterdatainaTargetCycleorTargetReleasefield,youmustinclude
thepathprecedingthecycleorrelease.Separateeachhierarchicallevelwith
TargetRelease
abackslash(\)character.

Makesurenottouseaforwardslash.IfaTargetReleaseorTargetCycle

TheworksheetcontainsdatacolumnsfortheName,RequirementType,Author,Priority,and
Productfields.
ThePathcolumndoesnotcorrelatetoanALMfield.Itisusedtoindicatethehierarchicallevel
ofeachrequirement.Forexample,Requirement_1doesnothaveanentryinthatcolumn,
indicatingthatitisonthetophierarchicallevel.ThepathdefinedforRequirement_2and
Requirement_3indicatesthattheserequirementsarechildrequirementsofRequirement_1.
ThepathdefinedforRequirement_4indicatesthatitisachildofRequirement_3.
Requirement_3andRequirement_4aredefinedastheTestingrequirementtypeanddonot
haveentriesinthePriorityandProductcolumns.PriorityandProductarenotrequiredfields
fortheTestingrequirementtype.
AfteryouuploadtherequirementstoALM,Requirement_1isdisplayedundertheroot
requirement,andtheotherrequirementsaredisplayedonotherhierarchicallevelsbelow

BeforeyouuploadyourteststotheALMTestPlanmodule,youformatthetestsinyourworksheet.
Toformatatest:
1. OpenyourExcelworksheet.
2. Defineeachtestonaseparaterow.Foreachtest,youmustdefineallrequiredfieldsasdefinedin
yourALMproject.
Considerthefollowingpointswhenformattingtests:
Subject DesignateaSubjectcolumn,whereyouspecifythetestsubjectfolderinwhichthetest
iscreated.Tocreatetestsinsubfoldersofthetestplantree,separateeachhierarchical
levelwithabackslash(\)character.Makesurenottouseaforwardslash.
Design Entereachdesignsteponaseparaterow.Identifythetestunderwhichthedesign
steps stepisincludedbytypingtheSubjectandTestName.
