This summary document outlines the Indian Register population of Alberta’s
First Nations as of December 31 , 2004 by age, gender, and place of residence.

Points to (a) Percentages may not add to 100 due to rounding.
Note :
(b) The actual on-reserve population of a F irst Nation will be greater than the
Indian Register on-reserve population since both Band and non-Band
members may be residing on reserve land.
Definitions : (a) Indian Register is a r ecord of the individuals who are registered pursuant
to the Indian Act.
(b) General List contains the names of those individuals who are listed in
the Indian Register but who are not registered with a F irst Nation.
(c) On Reserve means Band members who are residing on a r eserve of their
own band or on a r eserve of another Band.
(d) On Crown Land means Sand members residing on Crown land in a
community administered by their own or another Band. It a lso Includes
Band members residing on Crown land in a c ommunity not administered
by a s pecific Band.
(e) Off Reserve means Band members who are residing neither on a r eserve
nor on Crown land.
