Preface
TheInternationalConferenceonConceptualModeling(ER)istheleadingconference
onconceptualmodeling,alongwithitsfoundationsandapplications.Thisyear,the41st
edition of ER was held online from October 17 to 20, 2022. In addition to its main
program,theconferencehostedseveralsatelliteevents,includingfourworkshops.
ERworkshopsareforumsforexchangingemergentideasonconceptualmodeling.
Theyprovideopportunitiesforpresentinginitialandongoingworkandallowresearchers
and practitioners to interact and collaborate. This volume contains the proceedings of
threeofthefourworkshopsheldinconjunctionwithER2022.TheProgramCommittees
(PCs) and chairs of the workshops were responsible for reviewing and selecting the
papers.Eachpaperwasreviewedsingle-blindbyatleastthreemembersoftherespective
ProgramCommittee.Outof20submissions,thePCsaccepted11papersforpublication
intheseproceedings.
AnnaBernasconi,ArifCanakoglu,AnaLeónPalacio,andJoséFabiánReyesRomán
organized the 3rd International Workshop on Conceptual Modeling for Life Sciences
(CMLS2022).TheCMLSworkshopaimsatbringingtogetherresearchersfromthree
different areas, namely information systems, conceptual modeling, and data manage-
ment,tosharetheirworkonproblemsinhealthcareandlifesciences,withafocuson
genomicdatamanagementandprecisionmedicine.Thisvolumecontainsthefivepapers
presentedatCMLS2022.
João Araujo, Dominik Bork, Miguel Goulão, and Sotirios Liaskos organized the
5th International Workshop on Empirical Methods in Conceptual Modeling (EmpER
2022).EmpERbringstogetherresearchersandpractitionersinterestedintheempirical
investigationofconceptualmodelingsystemsandpractices.Thisvolumecontainsthe
onepaperpresentedatEmpER2022.Thisyear,CMLSandEmpERmergedtheirprogram
intotwojointsessionsfeaturingakeynotespeechbyPietroPinolifromthePolitecnico
diMilano.
Silvana Castano, Mattia Falduti, Cristine Griffo, Stefano Montanelli, and Tiago
PrinceSalesorganizedthe1stInternationalWorkshoponDigitalJustice,DigitalLaw,
and Conceptual Modeling (JUSMOD 2022). JUSMOD invites researchers to share
ideasonmodeling,analyzing,formalizing,andinterpretinglegaldataandrelatedpro-
cesses. This volume contains the five papers presented at JUSMOD 2022. The work-
shopalsofeaturedakeynotespeechbyEnricoFrancesconi,entitled“LegalKnowledge
RepresentationandReasoningintheSemanticWeb”.
Tong Li, Alejandro Mate, and Enyo Gonçalves organized the 15th International
i* workshop (iStar 2022). The i* workshop brings together researchers in the area of
goalmodelingtoexchangeideas,comparenotes,promoteinteractions,andforgenew
collaborations. The eight papers presented at iStar 2022 are published in a volume of
CEURWorkshopProceedings.
WearedeeplygratefultotheER2022generalchairs,KamalakarKarlapalemand
Manfred Jeusfeld, and PC chairs, Upendranath Chakravarthy, Mukesh Mohania, and
