Abstract TheJapaneseolidspecies,Xy/og1・aphe/1apunctata,isredescribedand
illustrated.Morphological featuresofthegenusXy1ogapheuaarediscussedindetail,
andanewtribe, Xy1ographe11ini,isestablishedbasedonthisgenus.
Xy1ographe11apunctata,oneof theJapaneseolidspecies,wasdescribedby
MIYATAKE(1985)withonlyabriefdiagnosis.Sincethen,detailedmorphological
featuresof thisspecieshavenotbeendescribedor illustrated.
ThemonotypicgenusXy1ographe11awasestablishedfor theuniquespecies,
x.punctata,whichisconsiderablydifferent inmorphological featuresfrom the
otherknownspeciesofthesubfamilyCiinae.Amoredetaileddescriptionof the
genus, incomparisonwithvariousgeneraofthefamily, isneeded forclarifying
itssystematicstatus. As theresult of our recent study, wehavecometo the
conclusionthatthegenusXy1ographe11arepresentsanewtribeofthesubfamily.
Inthispaper,wearegoingtoredescribeandillustrateX.punctata,andtoestablish
anewtribe, Xy1ographellini.

nodoubt important fordefiningtribesofthesubfamily, thereareother features
that should be taken up for tribal classification. For instance, labialstructure
is identical between theCiini andOrophiini, but is fundamentallydifferent in
