About the Author A.F. McGuinness is an award-winning author of fiction, history, poetry and literary criticism. He has lectured at five universities in the UK, ranging from medieval history to memoir and the short story to the novel. In 1996, he co-wrote the seminal A Guide to British Medieval Seals. He has won and judged short story competitions including The New Writer. In 2010, he won the Cultural Pioneer Award for literary projects in the community, including the design and coordination of the first fiction mentoring scheme in Kent. That same year, as part of a Libraries and Literacy initiative, he interviewed Booker-winning novelist, Kazuo Ishiguro. He has edited two anthologies: Night Train 5 and On the Line. He has been writer-in-residence in schools and even in a beach hut. He has hosted and performed at many literary events including Canterbury Festival. A Portrait of the Arsonist as a Young Man is his debut novel, to be followed by his first collection of short stories. He lives in Whitstable, Kent, with his wife and their bearded collie.
