Efficientprocessingofviewsiscriticaltomany realworldapplicationssuchassurveillancesystemswhichsupportmilitaryapplications.
Thisthesiscomparestheperformanceofthreeviewmaterializationstrategies:semi-materialization,fullmaterializationand query
modication. Thisthesisfirstdevelopsaprogramthatgeneratesdatabasesaccordingtouserspecification. Secondthegenerateddatabases
areusedtoconductanempiricalstudyonthethreeviewmaterializationstrategiesusingselect-project-joinandgeneralexpressionviews.
Theresultsofthestudy indicatethatforselect-project-joinviewdefinitions,semi-materializationperformedbestforhighervaluesof1,fv,
andallvaluesoffqwiththedatabasestoredonharddisk. Fullmaterializationperformedbestforlowervaluesof P,1,andallvaluesof fv
withthedatabasestoredinRAM.Theresultsalsoindicatethatthesemi-materializationstrategy isthebestviewprocessingmethodfor
generalexpressions.
