Abstract A new species belonging to the genus Elymnias HUbner, 1818 is described from
Sumbawa Is, ,Lesse rSunda lslands ,Indonesia and E. viteUia viminatis Wallace, 1869 is figure fdor

Upperside of fbrewing .Ground colour slightly bluish tinged blackis hbrown; a series of
submarginal transversall yelongated blue spots increasin ign size towards apex, from spaces
1b to 6, those in spaces lb to 3 with a small white spot proximally and those in spaces 2 and
3 displacedinward.

The type specimen is now in the author's collection, and will be deposite din Osaka
Museum of Natural History,
Etymology. The specific name tamboiuna is derived fror nancient dynasty of Sumbawa,
[lamboran.
Remarks, The presen tnew species most closely related to E, detani iAoki & Uemura,1982
(Fig s3-4) ,known from adjacent Flores Island, but is easily distinguish efdrom it by the
fbllowin gpoints :1) smaller in size; 2) on the upperside, a series of submarginal spots are
presen ton the hindwing, while in detani ithey are absent; 3) submarginal spot in space 1b
on the upperside forewing is single, while in detani iit is double; 4) a spot is presen tat the
base of space 4 on the upperside of the hindwing; 5) a series of submarginal spots on the
underside of both wings are much developed, while in detanii they are absent in spaces 4 to
6 on the forewing and only vestigial on the hindwing.

Remarks, The nominotypical subspecies vitellia (Stoll,[17 8d1i]s)uibuted commonly in
Ambon, Seram and aejacent island sbut viminalis, describe dfrom Buru island ,appears to
be very rare (Fruhstor 1f9e1r1,) ,D'Abrera (1990 o)mitted the latte srubspecies. Here it is
figured for the firs ttime. Elymnias viminatis dilfer sfrom vitellia in the fbllowing points :1)
ground colour of the upperside is simply brownish ,while in viteliia it is darker and strongly
tinged with pur:ple ;2) no subapical spots are present on the upperside of the forewing ,while
in vitellia they are present even though they yary in number and size; 3) there is a submar-
gina lspot in space 4 on the upperside of the forewing which corresponds to that on the un-
derside.

イン ドネシア，ス ンバ ワ島よりElymnias の一新種　Et．vmnias 　tamborana を記載 した．本新種は隣の フロー
レス 島よ り知られ るE．detaniにi 似るが，表面，裏面の亜外縁斑紋列が前後翅ともによ り発達 してい る
こ と，前翅表面第 1b室の 斑紋は二 分割されない こ と，さらに後翅表面に中室端に接 して 第4室基部に
明瞭な斑紋を有するこ となどで容易に区別で きる，
あわせ て E，醜 ’伽 の ブル 島亜種viminalis をは じめ て図示した．
