nov.,isdescribedfromNiigataPrefecture,CentralJapan. ItiscloselyalliedtoP.(E)
p''ole'lgatllsMORAWITZ.
ThesubgenusEoste,・opusTscHITscHERINE(1902, p 499)consistsof five known
speciesmainlydistributedinJapan. Veryrecently,aninterestingspeciesofthesub-
genuswasobtainedbyMr.ToruSuDAnear theJapanSeacoast ofCentralJapan,
andwassubmitted tome for taxonomicstudy. Anexaminationofitsgenitalorgan
provedthat thoughcloselyrelatedtoP. (E)pro/ongatusMoRAwITz(1862,p 209), it
wasnodoubtnewtoscience.Inthepresentpaper,Iamgoingtodescribeitunderthe
nameofP. (E)sudal. Theabbreviationsusedhereinarethesameasthoseexplained
inmypreviouspapers.

Notes. ThisnewpterostichinecarabidiscloselyalliedtoP.(E)pro1ongatus. It
is,however,distinguished fromitbythefollowingpoints: 1)bodylargerandwider
on an average; 2)pronota1sidesstronglyconvergent posteriad, andsometimes very
slightly sinuate just before hind angles; 3) elytra less parallel-sided, oblong-
ovate; 5)epipleurontruncatedatapex;6)aedeaguselongatewithout foveaon the
ventralsurface. Individual variationinthenumberofeIytraI dorsal poresisshown

ThemostobviousdiagnosticfeaturesofthesubgenusEo.s・to,opusweresummarized
by TANAKA (1958). Sincethen,hisviewhasbeenacceptedbyvariousauthors. It
is,however,necessarytoclarifyitstruerelationshipwiththesubgenusSteropusSTE-
PHENS(1828,p it6). Theyareverysimilartoeachotherwiththeexceptionofaede-
aga1structure.
Itseemsprobablethat theactualpopulationdensityof thisnew speciesiscon_
siderablyhighinthesummer,sinceMr.SuDAoncetookalongseriesof thjsspecjes
bybaited traps.

要 約
森田誠司: 新潟県で採集されたナガゴミムシ属の1新種. - 新潟県の低湿地で採集された, ナガ
ゴミムシ属のクロナガゴミムシ亜属に属する1新種, ェチゴクロナガゴミムシ Pterostichus(Eostero-
pus)sudai を記載した. 本種は, オオクロナガコ゛ミムシP.(E.、)pro1ongatus (MoRAwITz) に似ている
が大型で, 前胸背板の側縁が強く後角へ向かって狭まること, 上 側J'-の末端が切断状になること,
陰茎が細長く先端部下面に小高を欠くことなどの点で識別はやさしい.
