Abstract A new harpalinecarabidbeetle, Bradycelius(Tachycelius)saitoisp.
nov.,isdescribedfromthesubalpinezoneoftheJapaneseAlps,centralHonshu,Japan. It
isrelatedtoB (T)chinensisJEDLlcKA,butdi?orsfromitmainlyintheshapeofaedeaga1
apex.
Themost importantandrecentworkconcerning thesubgenusTatchyceliusisthat
ofJAEGERandWRAsE(1994).Accordingtotheirpaper,ninespeciesoccurinJapan.In
thispaper,atenthspeciesisaddedunderthenameofBradyce11us(T)saito1.But for
theirstudywhichwasbasedupon thetypematerialsofthespeciesdescribedbyold
authors,Icouldneverhavedeterminedthisnewspecies.

Diagnosis. Le量mandibleofnormal form(nottruncateattheapex);microsculp-
turevanishedondorsalside;pronota1hindanglesobtuse;analsternitewith2pairof
longsetaein ,3;hindwingsreduced;aedeagusstronglybentatapexinlateralview.
Description. Length:4.744.82mm(fromapicalmarginofclypeustoapicesof
elytra).
Bodyblacktoblackishbrown,andshiny;sideofpronotumandelytra1interval1
brown;ventralsidelighterthandorsum;clypeusandappendagesbrown,buttheanten-

na1segments1and2areusuallyreddishbrown.
Headconvex, not large; PW/HW 132-1.34 (M I33) in4 ; frontal furrows
clearlyanddeeply impressed,sometimesshallowernear lateralgrooves;eyesmoder-
atelyconvex;supraorbitalporeslocatedatthepost-eyelevel;apicalmarginoflabrum
usuallywidelyemarginate,withbothcornersrounded;surfaceverysparselyandfinely
punctate; microsculpture vanished; left mandible strongly curved in dorsal view,
pointedatapexinbothdorsalanddorso-apica1views;antennaerathershort;relative

Aedeaguselongate;vieweddorsally,apical lobegraduallynarrowedtowardsthe
tipwhichissimplyrounded;apexstronglybentinlateralview. Innersaccoveredwith
poorlysclerotizedteethandarmedwithtwoteeth-patchesandamatofpoorlysclero-
tized teeth; of thetwoteeth-patches, thele量one islarger than theright;amat of
poorlysclerotizedteethsmallandvague.Leftstylemoreorlessbroad;rightonerather
elongate.

Notes. Thepresent newspeciescanbeeasilydistinguished fromall theknown
membersofthesubgenusTa,chycelhisfromJapanbytheobtusehindanglesofprono-
tumanddifferentlyshapedaedeaga1apex.
Judging fromtheshapeofpronotumand thechaetotaxyofanalstemite,thisnew
speciesisrathercloselyalliedtoB.(T)chinensisJEDLlcKA(1953,p.143).It is,how-
ever, distinguished fromthe lattermainly by the followingpoints: 1) headnarrow,
PW/HW M I 33 [inB. chinensls,PW/HW M I 22(cf. JAEGER& WRAsE, 1994, p.
493)],2)vanishedmicrosculptureondorsalside,3)leftmandiblenottruncateatapex,
4) aedeaguswithapexstrongly bent,and5) innersacarmedwithtwoteeth-patches
andamatofpoorlysclerotizedteeth.
Althoughthetwo formsaredecisivelydifferent inthemalegenitaliainspiteof
their closesimilarityinexternalmorphology,thisnewspeciesistentativelyplacedat
thesideofB. chinetlsls.
要 約
森田誠司:日本アルプス亜高山帯のBradyce11us属の1新種. - 南アルプスで採集されたヒ
メゴモクムシの1新種, タカネヒメゴモクムシBradyceltus('la(chyce11us)saitoiを記 した. 本種
は, わが国から知られているTachyce11us亜属のすべての種と, 前胸背板の後角が鈍角であるこ
と, 陰茎先端部が強く屈曲することで容易に識別される.
種名B.sa,to,は, 快く研究材料を提供してくださった斎藤昌弘氏に棒げた.
