Sure, there was deep frustration for both of us, but Sue and I have always used humor to help cope with adversity. Sue, the medical secretary cum receptionist who’d typed up and made appointments for hundreds of similar cases over the years, finally struck down by a similar accident of biology. I guess there was some kind of ironic justice. But then, just as the medical experts gave me news I really didn’t want to hear, a chance event with our best friends took Sue and me in a direction we’d never have imagined. Never have imagined in a million years. With consequences for both of us we’re still feeling today.
