As many of you know now, my father Chris Mugler passed away near the end of
April. Dad had been in this industry a long time, having started by working for Bob
Petit (who also passed recently) at the old NDPA and for its magazine, Decorating

Retailer. I had visited Dad at the Chicago Paint Show once when I was attending

Ripon College in Wisconsin. What I noticed there was that Dad was always quick [email protected]

the aisles of manufacturer’s booths at the Show. It impressed me to see that my Associate Publisher/Editor
father was kind of a bigwig on this stage. Dad loved the spotlight and he was best in Jerry Rabushka

front of a large group of people where he could really turn on the charm. But that

really was not just a business persona; he was like that at home as well.

I held my sides from laughing so hard about the many memo-
rable things that Dad said or did when we were just little kids in

do. He wasn’t a painter, but he painted well. He wasn’t an “outdoorsman,” but he
could hunt and fish with the best of them. He wasn’t a comedian, but he told a

boat-load of jokes. One card I received came from Ron Robertson in California

who called Dad his good friend, his mentor and a great boss. Ron wrote: “A loved Ph: [phone]

man he was, and gain even half the respect and admiration he garnered from this
industry, I, like Dad, will have lived a full and rich life. To each and every one of
