Join the people
who will develop
a non-polluting fuel
The Institution of Engineering and Technology has over 150,000
members in 127 countries. Employed in a huge range of sectors,
they will develop ways to control the weather, software to drive space
probes, roads which repair themselves after an earthquake, and
robotic surgeons small enough to be injected into the bloodstream.
They are inspiring people. That’s why we know an IET member will
be part of the team who find a fuel that is kind to the environment.
If you’d like to shape the world too, join us.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology is registered as a Charity in England & Wales (no 211014) and Scotland (no SC038698)
IET Awards 2008
Welcome to the second annual IET Ambition and
Achievement Awards Ceremony. These awards provide an
opportunity to celebrate the best in the world of engineering,
from those just starting out to those at a more advanced stage
in their career.
The Ambition Awards support students and those in the
early stages of their career, whilst the Achievement Awards
recognise individual achievements, lifetime contributions and
the best technical papers from around the world. I would like
to congratulate all those featured on the following pages and
wish them continued success.
Finally, I would like to thank our sponsors – AREVA,
BAE Systems, BP, EDF Energy, IBM, Pace PLC and RS
Components for their generous support of these awards.

Presenter
– Dr Maggie Aderin
Dr Aderin is a space scientist with a PhD in Mechanical
Engineering. She does a great deal of work to promote
the contribution that science and engineering make
to society. Throughout her career Maggie has wanted
to pass on her enthusiasm and love of science and
engineering to persuade children, especially girls and
those from ethnic minorities that they, like her, can have
fulfilling careers in science. This passion has led Maggie
Courtesy of The Open University
to set up her own company Science Innovation Limited
(SIL) which tours the country sharing her passion for
Astronomy and space science with school children.
