group ran from 2002 to 2005 as a strand in the AHRB Centre for
AsianandAfricanLiteratures,SchoolofOrientalandAfricanStudies
and University College London. Together these two groups offered
newinitiatives in the fieldsofcomparative literature, literarytheory,
and translation studies taken together, and as editors we are most
