NEW BEGINNINGS
H
ello, friends! It is a privilege and a joy to greet you in this
issue as the new editor of The Cottage Journal. I have been
working on this beautiful publication for the past nine
years, and during that time, I have traveled across the country to
meet many of the innovative artisans, skilled designers, thoughtful
collectors, and creative homeowners who have graciously invited
us into their lives to share their uplifting spaces and personal stories
of home. I am excited to continue bringing you the coziest cottage
décor ideas for stylish and relaxed living.
In this autumn edition, we once again explore the marvels
of nature-inspired design. Fall is a great time to redecorate or
refresh small spaces in your home with the color palettes found
outdoors. Draw inspiration from our colorful cover story on
page 83 to create your own autumn tablescape for family and
friends that reflects your unique surroundings. If vibrant color
isn’t your style, we’ve got a rich, moody neutral table design that
is sure to delight! Designer and blogger Ashley Kay Johnson
showcases her charming greenhouse on page 89, where she
styled a fall tablescape decked with collected antiques and

and is full of personality. Don’t miss page 25, where designer
Jamie Elliott McPherson shares the stunning mountain cottage
that he thoughtfully renovated for his mother in Highlands,
North Carolina. The combination of European style paired with
the natural allure of the mountains results in an envy-worthy
retreat! And you’ll love getting to know our two featured artisans,
seen on pages 101 and 107. These entrepreneurs, based in
Oregon and North Carolina, each found creative ways to
enhance elements found in nature—like pumpkin stems and
tobacco leaves—and turn them into distinctive home décor.
I hope you truly feel the splendor of the season in the pages
to come. And if you find fresh ideas from this issue to consider
in your own stylish designs, our team would love to see what you

Autumn Home
“Autumn tucked me in her woodland home,
a honeyed spot for my soul to roam.”
