modeling and life prediction under uncertainty, and probability-based life prediction/design for

(ESIS)—TC12in2019,MostCitedChineseResearchers(Elsevier)inthefieldofSafety,Risk,Reliability,

Xiancheng Zhang received his Ph.D. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China in
2007. He then moved to National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) in Japan where he
was a Postdoctoral Researcher for 1 year. He has contributed considerably to life design and
predictionmethodsofhigh-temperaturecomponentsandtothedevelopmentofadvancedsurface
manufacturing techniques. He has published more than 100 peer reviewed papers, including
morethan70SCI-indexedpapersinsuchjournalsasActaMaterialia, JournalofAppliedPhysics,
Engineering Fracture Mechanics, and Surface and Coatings Technology. Dr. Zhang has received
a number of distinguished awards, including International Institute of Welding (IIW) Granjon
Prize,ShanghaiOutstandingDoctoralDissertationAward,nominationfortheChineseOutstanding
DoctoralDissertationAward,andChinesePetroleumChemicalIndustryAssociationTechnological
Award, first-class of the Shanghai Natural Science Prize, first-class of the Beijing Natural Science
Prize,andsecond-classoftheNationalNatureSciencePrizeofChina. Hewastherecipientofthe

Gang Chen received his Ph.D. in Chemical Process Machinery from Tianjin University, China,
in 2006. He wasa visitingscholar atVirginia Techin 2009and OakRidge NationalLab., United
States, in 2014. His main research field is in the mechanical behavior of materials, low cycle
fatigue, creep, creep-fatigue, and finite element analysis and constitutive modeling for electronic
andconventionalstructuralmaterials. Hehaspublishedover90papersinSCIjournalsandbeen
citedmorethan700timesintheSCIdatabase. Dr. ChenisaFellowofFatigueInstitution,Chinese
MaterialsResearchSociety. HeisalsoanIEEEmember. Dr. Chenhasbeenawarded“NewCentury
ExcellentTalentsinUniversity”,MinistryofEducationofChina,in2013,aswellas“YoungExcellent
TechnologicalInnovationTalents”,TianjinGovernmentofChina,in2014.

Jose´ A.F.O. Correia is Researcher at INEGI and CONSTRUCT/FEUP of the University of Porto
(Portugal). Since2018, heisGuestTeacherattheEngineeringStructuresDepartmentoftheCivil
EngineeringandGeosciencesFacultyoftheDelftUniversityofTechnology(Netherlands). Heisan
invitedAssistantProfessorattheStructuralMechanicssectionintheCivilEngineeringDepartmentof
theUniversityofCoimbra(since2016/09).HeobtainedisBSc(2007)andMSc(2009)degreesinCivil
EngineeringfromtheUniversityofTra´s-os-MonteseAltoDouro. Hewasaspecialistinsteeland
composite(steelandconcrete)constructionattheUniversityofCoimbrain2010. Hewasawarded
hisPh.D.inCivilEngineeringfromtheUniversityofPortoin2015. Heisalsoco-authorofmore
70papersinthemostrelevantscientificjournalsdevotedtoengineeringmaterialsandstructures,
as well as 150 proceedings in international and national conferences, congresses, and workshops.
He is a member of scientific and professional organizations, such as Ordem dos Engenheiros,
Associac¸a˜oPortuguesadeConstruc¸a˜oMeta´licaeMista(CMM),andAssociac¸a˜oparaaConservac¸a˜o
eManutenc¸a˜odePontes(ASCP).HeisCo-ChairofTC12ofEuropeanStructuralIntegritySociety
(ESIS), the Editor of the Springer Book Series Structural Integrity, and Guest Editor of numerous
international journals. His current research interests are (a) behavior to fatigue and fracture of
materialsandstructures(steelandaluminum,rivetedandboltedconnections,pressurevessels,old
steelbridges,windturbinetowers,offshorestructures);(b)probabilisticfatiguemodelingofmetallic
materials(includingstatisticalevaluation,sizeeffect,cumulativedamage);(c)probabilisticdesignof
glassstructuralelements;(d)mechanicalbehaviorofmaterialsandwoodenstructures(connections
and characterization of ancient structures); (e) mechanical and chemical characterization of old
mortarsandmasonrystructures.
GuianQianobtainedhisPh.D.fromtheInstituteofMechanics,ChineseAcademyofSciences,with
amajorinsolidmechanics,in2009.Afterwards,hemovedtoPaulScherrerInstitute(PSI)andwhere
he was Postdoctoral Fellow until 2012. Since 2013, he has been a Scientist in the Laboratory for
NuclearMaterials,NuclearEnergy,andSafetyDepartmentofPSI.Hiscurrentresearchinterestslie
inthefatigueandfractureanalysisofnuclearcomponentsandstructures. Hehasmadesignificant
contributionstonuclearsafetyassessment, especiallyinthepressurizedthermalshockanalysisof
reactorpressurevesselsandleak-before-breakanalysisofnuclearpiping. Hehaspublishedmore
than50peer-reviewedpapers,includingmorethan30SCI-indexedpapersinjournalssuchasActa
Materialia, International Journal of Solids and Structures, Engineering Fracture Mechanics, and
International Journal of Fatigue. He has been invited on numerous occasions to present keynote
talksatinternationalconferencesandsymposiums,includingthe11thInternationalWorkshoponthe
IntegrityofNuclearComponents,2014InternationalSymposiumonStructuralIntegrity,andNuclear
MaterialsSymposiuminChineseMaterialsConference2017. HehasbeenSessionOrganizerforthe
ASME PressureVessels andPiping Conference (2015–2017)and the14th International Conference
onFractureMechanics. Heservesasreviewerformorethan20internationaljournalsandseveral
internationalfundingcommittees.
