ABSTRACT
The publication provides a list of the projects
supported in each State through grants and contracts funded by the
States under Section 131(b) of Part C of the Vocational Fducation
Amendments of 1968. The listing, which is alphabetical br State,
shows the title of each project, the name of the grantee or
contractor conducting the project, and the amount of Section 131(b)
funding obligated for the project. The listing of State-administered
research and development projects was compiled on the basis cf
information supplied to the U. S. Office of Education by each State.
(Section 131(b) provides Federal funding for State-adminiltered
research and development activities in vocational education. These
Federal funds can be used for paying up to 75 percent of the costs of
the State Research Coordinating Unit (RCU) and for grants and
contracts covering 90 percent of the costs of research and/or
developmental projects.)

INTRODUCTION
Section 131(b) of Part C of the Vocational Education Amendments of
1968 pros ides Federal funding for State-administered research and
development activities in vocational education. These Federal funds
can be used for paying up to 75 percent of the costs of the State
Research Coordinating Unit (RCU) and for grants and contracts cover-
ing 90 percent of the costs of research and/or developmental projects.
Tile funds are allocated to tne States on the basis of a population
formulz prescribed in Public Law 90-57G.
In Fiscal Year 1973, for
example, the State of Alaska received$11,855, while the State of
California received $705,693.
The total funding appropriated for State use under Section 131(b) of
Part C amounted to $17,872,215 in Fiscal Year 1971, $3 million in

a portion of this funding to assist in meeting the maintenaice and
operational costs of the State Research Coordinating Units.
However,
the major part of the funding was used to support grants and contracts
with local school districts, universities, and other agencies within
each State for the conduct of vocational research and development
projects.
The purpose of this publication is to provide a listing of the pro-
jects supported in each State through grants and contracts funded by

amount of funds obligated in a particular Fiscal Year may or may not
be equal to the State's allotment for that Fiscal Year.
