Abstract
Theinterplayofsuperconductivityandmagnetismisinvestigatedforsystemswithdimensions
rangingfromthemesoscopictotheatomicscalebyscanningtunnelingmicroscopy(STM)
atmillikelvintemperaturesandbynumericalcalculations.Basedongeometricallyconfined
superconductorsinmagneticfields,anovelSTMapproachisintroducedtoquantitatively
probethespinpolarizationoftunnelingelectrons.
Inthefirstpartofthiswork,theeffectsofmagneticfieldsandgeometricalconfinementare
probedforsuperconductingvanadiumSTMtips. Duetotheuniqueconfinementranging
fromtheatomictothemesoscopicscale,thesuperconductingpropertiesoftheSTMtips
varyconsiderablyfromtheirbulkcounterparts. Toanalyzetheexperimentallydetermined
magneticfielddependenceofseveralVtips,thesuperconductivityisnumericallycalculated
formodeledconegeometrieswithvariousopeningangles.Thenumericalapproachbasedon
aone-dimensionalUsadelequationleadstoadirectcorrelationbetweentheopeningangleα
andtheorderofthesuperconductingphasetransition. Firstorderphasetransitionsoccur
whentheopeningangleissmallerthanacriticalvalue(α<α ),whilstlargeropeningangles
c
(α>α )resultinsecondorderphasetransitions.Thecomparisonofexperimentalfindingsand
c
numericalresultsrevealstheexistenceoffirstandsecondorderquantumphasetransitionsin
theVSTMtips.Inaddition,thenumericalcalculationsalsoexplainexperimentallyobserved
broadeningeffectsofthesuperconductingspectrabythespecifictipgeometry.
Inthesecondpart,thesuperconductingVtipsareemployedinanovelapproachtoquantita-
tivelyprobethespinpolarizationoftunnelingelectronsonthenanoscale.Forthispurpose,
theMeservey-Tedrow-FuldetechniqueistransferredtoSTMinordertocombinetheirvirtues,
suchasthequantitativeprobingcapabilityofthespinpolarization,theprecisecontrolatthe
atomicscaleandthewell-definedvacuumtunnelbarrier.Todemonstratethecapabilitiesof
thenewtechnique,thelocalspinstructureisresolvedforamagneticConanoisland,where
spinpolarizationsrangingfrom-56%upto65%werefound,dependingonthelocalposi-
tion.Furthermore,thespinpolarizationP stronglyvarieswiththetip-to-sampledistancez
(dP/dz≈10%/Å),whichisdescribedbythedifferentdecaysofthespin-upandspin-down
wavefunctionsintothevacuumtunnelbarrier.
Thefinalpartdescribesthelocalinteractionbetweenisolatedmagneticmomentsandthe
superconductinggroundstate.Copperphthalocyaninemoleculesonthesuperconducting
V(100)surfaceinduceboundstateswithinthesuperconductinggapduetothemagneticcou-
plingandtheCoulombpotentials.Spatiallyresolvedmeasurementsrevealthenon-isotropic
structureofthespectralweightsthatisexplainedbytheadsorptionsiteonthe5×1recon-

structionoftheV(100)surface. Thequasi-particleexcitationsarenotonlyobservedonthe
magnetic molecule but also occur in its close vicinity. With increasing distance from the
molecularstructure,theintensitiesoftheboundstatesdecaywithinthedistancex≈±30Å
andshowperiodicoscillationsatthesametime.Comparingtheexperimentalfindingstoa
one-dimensionalmodelsuggeststhepresenceofacomplicatedscatteringpotential,which
canbesimplifiedbyassumingtwopointscattererswithinthemolecularstructure.
Theinvestigationspresentedinthisthesisprovideabetterfundamentalunderstandingof
superconductivityinthepresenceofmagneticfields,enablinganovelapproachforquantita-
tivelyprobingthespinpolarizationinSTM.Furthermore,theinterplayofsuperconductivity
withisolatedmagneticmomentsisprobedontheatomicscaleandthedistancedependence
oftheinducedboundstatesindicatesthespatialextensionofthemagneticinteraction.

Kurzfassung
DievorliegendeArbeitstudiertdasWechselspielzwischenSupraleitungundMagnetismus
mittelsRastertunnelmikroskopieundnumerischerBerechnungen.EswerdemSystemeun-
tersucht,derenräumlicheAusdehnungvoneinigenwenigenAtomenbishinzumesoskopi-
schenGrößenreicht.DabeiwirdeinneuesVerfahrenderRastertunnelmikroskopievorgestellt,
welchesaufräumlicheingegrenztenSupraleiterninmagnetischenFeldernalsSondenzur
quantitativenMessungderSpinpolarisationvontunnelndenElektronenbasiert.
DieEffekteräumlicherEingrenzungundhoherMagnetfelderwerdenzunächstansupralei-
tendenVanadiumspitzenfürdieRastertunnelmikroskopieuntersucht.Diesupraleitenden
EigenschaftenderRastertunnelmikroskopiespitzenweichenaufgrundderbesonderenGeo-
metrie,welchedenSupraleitersowohlaufatomareralsauchaufmesoskopischerLängenskala
räumlichbegrenzt,erheblichvonmakroskopischenProbenab.ZurAnalysederexperimentell
bestimmtenMagnetfeldabhängigkeitenverschiedener,supraleitenderSpitzenwirddieSu-
praleitungfürkegelförmigeModelleunterschiedlicherÖffnungswinkelnumerischberechnet.
BasierendaufeinereindimensionalenUsadelGleichungführtdienumerischeBerechnung
zueinerdirektenBeziehungzwischendemÖffnungswinkelαundderOrdnungdessupra-
leitendenPhasenübergangs.WährendfürÖffnungswinkelunterhalbeineskritischenWertes
(α<α )PhasenübergängeersterOrdnungauftreten,erzeugengrößereWinkel(α>α )Pha-

senübergängezweiterOrdnung.DerVergleichvonexperimentellenBefundenundnumeri-
schenBerechnungenbestätigtdieExistenzvonPhasenübergängensowohlersteralsauch
zweiterOrdnungindenVanadiumspitzen.
ZurAnwendungkommendiesupraleitendenVanadiumspitzenanschließendineinemneuen
VerfahrenzurquantitativenBestimmungderSpinpolarisationvontunnelndenElektronenmit
atomarerräumlicherAuflösung.MitdemTransferderMeservey-Tedrow-FuldeTechnikindie
RastertunnelmikroskopiewerdendieVorzügebeiderVerfahrenkombiniert,welchequantitati-
vesMessenderSpinpolarisation,präziseKontrolleaufatomarerSkalaundeinewohldefinierte
Vakuumtunnelbarrierebeinhalten.ZurDemonstrationdesLeistungsvermögensderneuen
MesstechnikwerdendielokalenSpinstruktureneinermagnetischenNanostrukturausCobalt
räumlichaufgelöstund,abhängigvonderMessposition,Spinpolarisationenvon-56%bis
65%nachgewiesen.DarüberhinauszeigtdieSpinpolarisationP einesignifikanteAbhängig-
keitvondemAbstandzzwischenSpitzeundProbe(dP/dz≈10%/Å),welchesichdurchdas
unterschiedlicheAbklingenderWellenfunktionenverschiedenerSpinorientierungeninder
Vakuumtunnelbarriereerklärenlässt.

aufder5×1RekonstruktionderV(100)Oberfläche.DieAnregungenvonQuasiteilchenzu-
ständenbeschränkensichjedochnichtnuraufdieräumlicheAusdehnungdermolekularen
Strukturen,sondernlassensichauchinderenunmittelbarerUmgebungnachweisen.Mit
zunehmenderDistanzx≈±30ÅvondenMolekülenverschwindetdiespektraleIntensitätder
induziertenZustände,wobeiwährenddesAbklingvorgangsnochzusätzlicheOszillationenzu
beobachtensind.ImVergleichmiteinemeindimensionalenModellfindensichHinweiseauf
dieExistenzeineskomplexenStreupotentials,welchessichineinervereinfachtenBetrachtung
mittelszweierpunktförmigermagnetischerMomenteinnerhalbeineseinzelnenMoleküls
beschreibenlässt.
DiehierpräsentiertenStudienverbesserndasGrundlagenverständnisvonSupraleitungin
GegenwartvonmagnetischenFeldernundermöglicheneinneuesMessverfahreninderRaster-
tunnelmikroskopiezurquantitativenBestimmungderSpinpolarisation.DieUntersuchung
derWechselwirkungzwischenSupraleitungundeinzelnenmagnetischenMomentenzeigtdie
