This volume is dedicated to the memory of Sue Hendler, who served on

1 the faculty of Queens University from 1987 until receiving a diagnosis
1 of advanced metastatic breast cancer in January 2007. Her death came

5 too early in September 2009. Well recognized for her work on feminist

t approaches to planning history and ethics, Sue’s final project, with Gail

] Dubrow, was to bring together planners working on LGBT topics to

t
i produce the first published volume on the subject. When it was clear that
s
r
e Sue’s focus needed to be redirected to her own health struggles, they passed
v
ni it on to Petra L. Doan to edit. Sue lived her beliefs in all respects, from a
U
l passion for the natural world and related environmental concerns to a
a
n well-honed set of ethics that emphasized truth-telling. This volume is an
o
ti extension of her wider vision of a wholly inclusive approach to planning.

include comparative studies of planning institutions, theories and practices, and
