Nowadays industrial aerodynamic compressor design is based on mature com-
puter programs developed during several decades. State of the art is to split
thecomplexdesignprocessintosubsequentdesignsubtaskswhicharesolvedby
different experts via time-consuming parameter studies. Isolated design of sub-
problemsbasedonhumanintuition,however,willresultinsub-optimalsolutions
only. Duetotheincreasingdemandonhigheraeroengineperformanceanddesign
cycletimereductiontheaspectsofprocessintegrationandautomationaswellas
numericaloptimizationbecomemoreandmoreimportantintoday’saerodynamic
compressordesign.
Theintentionofthisworkistoshowhowprocessintegrationandoptimization
canbeusedefficientlytosupportengineeringdesignworkinoptimalsolutionfind-
ing. Since the aerodynamic compressor design is characterized by many design
parameters,multipleconstraintsandcontradictingobjectives,multi-objectiveop-
timizationisusedtofindPareto-optimalsolutionsfromwhichthedesignengineer
can choose trade-offs for his particular design problem. The improvements in
termsofprocessaccelerationanddesignoptimizationaredemonstratedforthree
selected,buttypicalindustrialengineeringdesigntasksrequiredinthreedifferent
designphasesoftheaerodynamiccompressordesignprocess,namelypreliminary
design,throughflowoff-design,andbladingprocedure.

DeraerodynamischeVerdichterentwurfwirdheutzutageinderIndustriemitHilfe
vonausgereiftenComputerprogrammendurchgefu¨hrt,dieu¨berJahrzehnteentwi-
ckeltenwurden.StandderTechnikistes,denkomplexenEntwurfsprozessinmeh-
rereeinzelneEntwurfsaufgabenaufzuteilen,welchedurchzeitaufw¨andigeParame-
terstudien von unterschiedlichen Experten gel¨ost werden. Ein isolierter Entwurf
basierendaufmenschlicherIntuitionfu¨hrtjedochnurzusub-optimalenL¨osungen.
Auf Grund der ansteigenden Anforderung an die Leistung eines Flugtriebwerks
und der Reduzierung der Entwicklungszeiten gewinnen die Aspekte der Prozes-
sintegrationund-automatisierungalsauchdernumerischenOptimierungindem
heutigenVerdichterentwurfsprozessanst¨arkererBedeutung.
DieIntentiondieserArbeitistes,M¨oglichkeitenaufzuzeigen,wieProzessinte-
gration und Optimierung effizient genutzt werden k¨onnen, um die Entwurfsauf-
gabe des Ingenieurs durch automatische L¨osungssuche zu unterstu¨tzen. Da der
aerodynamischeVerdichterentwurfsprozessdurcheineVielzahlvonEntwurfspara-
metern,mehrerenNebenbedingungenundgegens¨atzlichenEntwurfszielencharak-
terisiertist,wirddieMehrkriterien-OptimierungzumAuffindenPareto-optimaler
L¨osungenverwendet,vondenenderEntwurfsingenieurKompromissl¨osungenfu¨r
seinespezielleEntwurfsaufgabeausw¨ahlenkann.Anhandvondreiausgew¨ahlten,
typisch industriellen Entwurfsaufgaben aus drei unterschiedlichen Entwurfspha-
sen der aerodynamischen Verdichterauslegung wie der Mittelschnittsrechnung,
desStromlinienkru¨mmungsverfahrenssowiedesSchaufelentwurfswerdenverbes-
serte Ergebnisse in Bezug auf Prozessbeschleunigung und optimierten Entwurf
demonstriert.
