toservethemanyresidentsofNortheasternNorthCarolina.
With enrollment in curriculum programs up by 12%, COA
offers a high quality education that is both affordable and
closetohome. OurthreecampuslocationsinElizabethCity, ;^'
Manteo, and Edenton are growingand being renovated as 1
writethismessage. Asyouwillseethroughoutthisreport,we
areofferingthemostup-to-datefacilitiesandstate-of-the-art
equipmenttoallofourstudents. Youwillalsomeetthreeof
ourstudentsaswe sharewithyoutheiruniquestoriesasto
whatbroughtthemtotheCollegeandhowtheyhavemetand
exceeded their goals. We are very proud ofthese students

CollegeofTheAlbemarleopensthedoortohigh-quality, accessibleeducationalopportunities TheCosmetologyDepartment,alsoat
thatminimizebarrierstopost-secondaryeducation,maximizestudentsuccess,andimprovethe theElizabethCityCampus,recently
livesandwellbeingofindividualsinNortheasternNorthCarolina. Ourthreecampuslocations underwentamajorrenovation
continuetogrowwithnewcampusbuildingssuchastheABuildingExpansionattheElizabeth bringingthe8o'sstylefurnishings
CityCampus,theDareCountyCampusLibraryrenovation,theCosmetologyDepartment intothe21stcentury. Theproject
renovationattheElizabethCityCampus,andthenewGreenhouseattheEdenton-ChowanCampus. updatedapproximately4,000square
feetoflabandclassroomspacewith
TheABuildingExpansionproject,with24,000squarefeetofnewspace,housesthecollege's newworkstationsandequipment,
officesofadmissions,scholarshipsandstudentaid,andcounselingonitsfirstfloorandtwonew waitingroom,wiring,plumbing,
sciencelabsanda120-seattieredlecturehallonthesecondfloor. Thenewbuildingisconnected tile,andpaint. Thenumberofwork
totheexisting'A'Buildingviaaglassatrium. Thetwonewsciencelabsgivethecampusatotalof stationswasincreasedtoallowfor
fivestate-of-the-artlabswithcustomaudio/visualequipmentineachlab. additionalstudentsandthespacewas

Renovations
TheDareCountyCampusrecentlyheldaribboncuttingceremony AftertherenovationoftheTechnologyBuildingattheEdenton-
foritsnewlyrenovatedlibrary. Theproject,whichbeganinMay ChowanCampus,itwasdiscoveredthatagreenhousewasneeded
2008,placedanemphasisonenlargingthesizeofthelibrary, toprovideagriculturestudentssufficientpracticalexperience.A
increasingtheamountoflightinthearea,andtoallowforsmall jointventurewiththepublicschools,agreenhousewitha2,000
groupstudyroomsforstudents. Toaccomplishthesegoals,the squarefootinteriorareawasaddedtothecampusgrounds. The
libraryareawasincreasedbyapproximately25%.Newwindows areaisfencedandgatedforplantgrowthoutdoorsandasale
wereadded,thebookshelveswerereducedinsize,andnew stand. ThesalestandwasbuiltbyCOAstudents. Itisplanned
lightingwasadded. Awonderfullandmarkinthisrenovatedspace thatstudentswillgrowflowers, shrubs, bushes, andvegetable

Dr.SteveRaisor,AssociateProfessorofMusic,MilesClarkEndowedChairinMusicand ProcessingSystem(UPS)
theAuditoriumManager. AsasevenyearemployeeattheCollege,Stevehastaughtmany OutstandingAchievementAward
studentsofalllevelsofmusicalabilityintheory,appreciation,andappliedmusic. Aswith ispresentedannuallybytheNorth
manyinstructors,hefeelsmostaccomplishedashisstudentsgraduateandareacceptedinto CarolinaCommunityCollegeSystem
theuniversitylevel,sometimesonfullscholarships. AnotherpartofthejobthatSteveenjoys foroutstandingachievementin
isbeingtheDirectoroftheCommunityBandwhichiscomprisedofamateurmusiciansfrom servicetotheUPSOrganization
thelocalAlbemarleregion. Beginninghisownmusicalcareerattheageof12,takingup oroutstandingachievementbyan
classicalguitar,StevehasearnedaMaster'sdegreeinmusictheoryandguitarperformanceand UPSmember. The2008award
aDoctorateinhumanitieswithanemphasisonmusic. Stevenotedthathewas "proudtobe waspresentedtoDawnRountree,
