Dear Notator User,
You are now in pos ession of NOTATOR 3.1, and we should like to thank
you for your on-going vote of confidence in the quality of C-LAB pro
ducts. To find your way around the disks that come with the update, please
read on.
The NOTATOR di k contains the necessary program files with an AUTO
LOAD.SO , plus the SOFfLI K Multi Application Manager program for
those of you with 2MB or more of RAM. The NOTEPAD opens automati
cally once NOTATOR has loaded, giving information about the AUTO
LOAD.SO . To top the NOTEPAD automatically opening, delete the ex
clamation mark in the top lefthand corner and resave the AUTO
LOAD.SON.
While the program is loading, you may see some word appear on the
screen saying "Kein Virus ..." . This indicates that the disk was immunized
by C-LAB, and is telling you that there are no viruses on the disk.
If the OT AT OR di k is damaged and will not load, there is an identical
backup disk.
The TUTORIAL disk contains practical example in the u age of NOTA
TOR: the BASICS folder has 56 simple exercises and the EXAMPLES
folder has 20 tasks for the more advanced. You will find more details in the
READ_ME.TXT (double-click it, then click "Show": to croll the text
press <Return> or <Spacebar>, to quit press <Control-C>)
The DEMOSONG disk contain compo itions dedicated to various instru
ments and hows something of what OTA TOR can do. Plea e read the
OTEPAD for more detail . IMPORTA T! Make sure you save the
SysEx contents of your synthesizer, since these demo songs contain Sy Ex
data that will overwrite your device's data when you start the song. For
more advanced U er , the REQUEST.SO contain ready-made dump re
quests for various instruments. TR808.SON allow the Roland TR-808 to
be synchronized to NOTATOR/CREATOR via the C-LAB HUMAN
TOUCH.
The FONT disk contains a selection of fonts for on- creen text and print
ing. Examples of usage are in the FONTDEMO.SO (see al o the Operat
ing Manual Chapter 13.6).

We are delighted with the interest you go on showing
for each new version of CREATOR/NOTATOR we
bring you. This Version 3.1 is an exciting one, both
for CREATOR and NOT AT OR owners, and we trust
that its new features and enhancements will be as
musically-useful to you as we had fun developing it.
Please read this addendum pages carefully! Then
insert them into your CREATOR/NOTATOR ring
binder.
These new pages replace the corresponding existing
pages. Where there is no existing page to replace, the
new page is added to the manual at the appropriate
page number. For example, a new page 11-23 would
replace the old page 23 in Chapter 11.
Chapter 20: "ARRANGE MODE" is completely re
placed by the new pages.
We also include a summary of the latest Version 3.1
rev1s10ns.

Version 3.1,
- The Graphic Arrange Mode (GAM) allows ar
Sequencer:
rangements to be viewed and edited graphically.
You can switch at any time between the GAM and
the familiar arrange list. The numerous new fea
tures GAM include new positioning methods, and
chain-specific commands.
- The GAM Scrub Mode allows the arrangement to
be audio-cued forwards or backwards by mouse
dragging.
- The pattern window can now display "double pat
terns" of 32-tracks.
- New mute functions allow all tracks of a pattern to
be simultaneously muted/demuted; also Solo Mute
and Inverse Mute for easy track management.
- Pattern can now be quickly deleted from within
Pattern Overview.
- Arrangements can now be saved to/loaded from
disk.
- CREATOR/NOTA TOR now support the Fostex
MTC-1: remote control of Fostex tape recorders
from your favourite sequencer (UNITOR is re
quired).
- Support for the C-LAB Steady Eye VITC synchro
nizer is built into the software.
Version 3.1,
- Up to three independent voice of polyphony per

- Tracks in the "mapped drum mode" can now have
a percussion clef.
- A one-line percussion stave is now available.
- Enhanced Note Attributes window: disabling of
Interpretation/Rest Correction modes on a per-note
basis; tie direction ; etc.
- "Independent note " can be positioned anywhere
and have a MIDI output. "Graphic notes" without
MIDI can also be positioned anywhere; either type
can be used for grace notes complete with slashed
stem.
- The "Process Note Attribute " function applies at
tributes eg. enharmonic shifting or staccati/accents
to the whole track or ju t a egment. Conditions
and criteria can be et, depending on note position,
Channel, length, pitch or velocity.
- Page Preview is enhanced to include the ability to
jump straight to a page, plu more.
- Pages of print can be aved to disk as "IMG" files
for further editing in DTP programs such as Cala
mus.

The simplest way to deactivate a file is to rename the
extension: eg "CPX" in the files WCOLORS.CPX,
COLOR.CPX and MACCEL.CPX to, for example,
"CPY". You will find these file in the folder called
"CPX": to rename, click one of the files and select
"Show Info ..." in the "File" menu.
After that, open the "AUTO" folder and rename the
file called "MACCEL3.PRG" to, for example,
"MACCEL3.PRX".
MEGA STE, Click "Control Panel" in the "Desk" menu. Now
system settings
double-click the "General Setup" panel and click the
word "CPU SPEED". A small flip menu opens con
taining three possible settings: select "16 MHZ -
Cache off'.
Now save this new default by clicking the "Save"
button in the Control Panel.
Now switch off the computer, wait a few seconds and
then start it again.
After these steps, CREA TOR or NOT AT OR should
operate properly on the Mega STE.
