Preface
This volume contains selected research papers and descriptions of prototypes and
products presented at DESRIST 2015 – the 10th InternationalConference on Design
Science Research in Information Systems and Technology held during May 20–22,
2015,atClontarfCastle,Dublin,Ireland.
The DESRIST Conference continued the tradition of advancing and broadening
design research within the information systems discipline. DESRIST brings together
researchersandpractitionersengagedinallaspectsofDesignScienceresearch,witha
special emphasison nurturingthe symbiotic relationship between Design Science re-
searchersandpractitioners.Asinpreviousyears,scholarsanddesignpractitionersfrom
variousareas,suchasinformationsystems,computerscience,industrialdesign,design
thinking,innovationmanagement,servicescience,andsoftwareengineering,cameto-
gethertodiscussandsolvedesignproblemsthroughtheinnovativeuseofinformation
technologyandapplications.TheoutputsofDESRIST,newandinnovativeconstructs,
models, methods, processes, and systems providethe basis for novelsolutions to de-
sign problemsin many fields. The conferencefurther built on the foundation of nine
priorhighlysuccessfulinternationalconferencesheldinClaremont,Pasadena,Atlanta,
Philadelphia,St.Gallen,Milwaukee,LasVegas,Helsinki,andMiami.
The title of this volume, “New Horizons in Design Science: Broadening the Re-
search Agenda,“ reflects the need for a discussion to broaden the research agenda of
DesignScienceResearch,ifitistoflourishandgrowasaresearchactivity.Theagenda
of DESRIST 2015conferencereflected thisinclusiveapproach.By accommodatinga
rangeofdiversedesignperspectives,theintentoftheconferencewastostimulatedis-
cussionandenablecross-disciplinecollaboration.
Overallwereceived111submissions(61researchmanuscripts,11prototypesand
products,and39research-in-progressandposterpapers)totheconferenceforreview.
Each researchpaperwas reviewedbya minimumof two referees.For these proceed-
ings 22 full papers and 11 short papers were accepted together with 10 short papers
describingprototypesandproducts.
Theprogramalsoincludedtwopanels,twokeynotepresentations,aswellasposter
presentations.The acceptedpaperswere distributedbetweenrangesofdiverse design
perspectives. As in previousyears, a substantial numberof papersdiscussed method-
ological aspects of Design Science and described the application of Design Science
researchtoreal-worlddesignproblems.
We wouldliketothanktheauthorswhosubmittedtheirpaperstoDESRIST2015
conferenceand we trustthat the readerswill find them as interestingand informative
as we did. We would like to thank the members of the Program Committee as well
as the additional referees who took the time to provide detailed and constructive re-
views for the authors. We appreciated the efforts of the other members of the Orga-
nizingCommittee,aswellasthe volunteerswhosededicationandefforthelpedbring
about another successful conference.We would like to take this opportunityto thank
