Preface
It is not obvious among technical sciences to find a second equally diverse and mul-
tidisciplinary one, as multimedia communication technology. The richness of this
discipline is rapidly growing, especially when we consider its connection with
telecommunications and security challenges. Following a long tradition of MCSS
conferences, this year marked the 10th edition and was characterized by a unique
diversesetoftopicsthatperfectlyillustratedthewealthofissuesthatarepositionedat
the center of scientific interest of researchers, who have demonstrated their commit-
ment to this broad area.
Consequently, according to the MCSS conference prerogative, the call for papers
was positively received and resulted in these proceedings. The reader will find a
discussion of the issues belonging to main topics of the conference such as cyberse-
curity, multimedia processing and analysis, and systems architectures and designs.
Multimediasurroundsuseverywhere.Itisestimatedthatonlyapartoftherecorded
resourcesareprocessedandanalyzed.Theseresourcesofferenormousopportunitiesto
improvethequalityoflifeofcitizens.Asaresult,oftheintroductionofanewtypeof
algorithms to improve security by maintaining a high level of privacy protection.
Among the many articles, there are examples of solutions for improving the operation
of monitoring systems or preventing threats in the industrial environment.
The important group of issues is the creation of solutions and functionalities into
ready-to-use systems. The practical use of research results was discussed during the
conference. Connecting them with modern architectures is a natural necessity in the
case offuture implementations.
A significant part of the MCSS 2020 was dedicated to cybersecurity and, more
specifically, to the outcomes of the ECHO EU project “European network of Cyber-
security centers and competence Hub for innovation and Operations.”
The Central Competence Hub serves as the focal point for the ECHO Multi-sector
AssessmentFramework,enablingmulti-sectordependenciesmanagement,provisionof
an Early Warning System and a Federation of Cyber Ranges. The Multi-sector
Assessment Framework refers to the analysis of challenges and opportunities derived
from sector-specific use cases, transversal cybersecurity needs analysis, and develop-
ment of inter-sector Technology Roadmaps involving horizontal cybersecurity disci-
plines. The Early Warning System, Federation of Cyber Ranges, and Inter-sector
Technology Roadmaps are then subjected to Demonstration Cases incorporating rel-
evant involvement of inter-dependent industrial sectors. The ECHO Cybersecurity
Certification Scheme provides a sector-specific and inter-sector process for cyberse-
curity certification testing of new technologies and products resulting from the pro-
posed Technology Roadmaps.
Additionally, more application related work is also presented at the conference,
including solutions supporting the effective analysis for the security of diagnostic and
repair work on industrial devices with the use of mobile units and advanced image

analysis. Research and development focusing on these issues were performed in the
INRED project which has the objective to develop an innovative system supporting
employees in the implementation of renovation and repair works industrial diagnostic
devices, as well as ensuring a significant increase in work safety with a simultaneous
increase in the quality of work.
As theeditors, we hopethat every participantofthis conference, aswell asreaders
of these proceeding, will appreciate the possibility of broadening their knowledge,
thanks to the detailed and careful presentation of ideas, methods, and achieved results
bytheauthors.Finally,wewouldliketoturnyourattentiontotheuniqueenvironment
of the scientific event, which is the millennial Cracow with its unique charm of the
autumn.
