Some of the main papers in this volume were presented to the I Inter-
national Conference of the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas, cele-
brated in Mexico City, July 7-11, 2003. It inaugurated a series of In-
ternationalConferencestobeorganizedbythisInstituto.
Weexpressour gratitude to DrDiego ValadésRíosformerHeadof
the Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas, UNAM, for his overall sup-
port that made possible both, first, the celebration of that Conference
and, later, the publication of this volume. We also express our grati-
