【神栖市のあらまし】（概要）
神栖市は茨城県の東南部に位置し，四季を通じて寒暖差の少ない，比較的温暖な気候の地域です。
太平洋の鹿島灘と，霞ヶ浦と北浦を源とする常陸利根川及び利根川にはさまれた平坦な低地にあり，北は鹿嶋市，
西は利根川を経て千葉県の香取市，東庄町に，南は千葉県銚子市に接しています。
本市の北部から東部一帯に鹿島港及び鹿島臨海工業地帯が整備されており、鉄鋼、石油製品等の広域的な供
給拠点として、重要な役割を担っています。また，日本一の生産量をほこるピーマンなどの農業や，波崎漁港では県
内でも有数の漁獲高があり，漁業も盛んな地域です。
市施行 2005 年（平成 17 年）8 月 1 日（旧神栖町と旧波崎町の合併により）

市章（マーク）
市章は「か」の字を飛鳥のイメージに図案化し，市民の融和と団結を表わすととも
に工業地帯として伸びゆく未来と産業文化の飛躍的発展を単純，明快，かつ力強
く象徴化し，市章の「 」は臨海の市を表わすための波頭を意味しています。

Kamisu city
【Basic information of Kamisu city】 (Quick facts)
Kamisu city is located in the South-east area of Ibaraki prefecture, and the climate is relatively mild
throughout the year.
The city lies in a low-altitude area between the sea of Kashima (Kashimanada) in the Pacific Ocean and
the two rivers (Hitachi-Tonegawa River and Tonegawa River), which flow from Lake Kasumigaura and Lake
Kitaura. The city is adjacent to Kashima city to the north, Katori city and Tonosho machi of Chiba prefecture
across Tonegawa River to the west, and Choshi city of Chiba prefecture to the south.
The Port of Kashima and the Kashima Coastal Industrial zone are located in the north and the east areas
of the city, and they play an important role of the wide-area supply hub for steel, petroleum products, etc. In
addition,the city is famous for its agriculture with the most amount of production of bell peppers in the country.
Also, the city is thriving in the fishing industry with the Hasaki fishery port ranking high in the fish catch within
Ibaraki prefecture.
Municipalized in 1 August, 2005 (by annexationk of Kamisu town and Hasaki town)

【City emblem】
With the stylized Japanaese letter “か” (ka of Kamisu) into the image of a flying bird, the
city emblem expresses the citizens’harmony and solidarity as well as the city’s
blossoming future as an industrial area and dramatic development in industrial culture.
The white area of the emblem ( ) symbolizes the crest of a wave, which represents
the coastal location of the city.
