This book has its origin in a 2-day workshop on ‘IP Aspects of Free Trade
Agreements in the Asia Pacific Region’, held at the University of Wollongong in
November 2008 with support from the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative

Abstract The contributions to this book show the strategies and policies of
countriesintheAsia-Pacificregionthathavetograpplewithinternationalstandard
setting in what has been called the ‘spaghetti bowl’ of criss-crossing free trade
agreements. Thechaptersshow how intellectualproperty is justone among many
