The secret is to be able to find them anywhere and mas-
ter the technique to be able to concentrate on the shot
without being worried about the camera settings.
This basic manual, in addition to being a tribute to the magi-
cal world of photography, presents the essential information,
step by step and in a simple way, to shoot like a professional
photographer.
It’s about learning to photograph by taking pictures. Practi-
cing concepts such as focus, aperture and shutter speed un-
til they become automatic movements. At the same time we
must develop the visual aspects. This means “seeing as a ca-
mera”, having a clear vision for each photographic situation
and composing a scene as if you were painting on canvas.
Throughout this book you will see examples of photographic
compositionand how you can improve the results by being able
to choose those elements that will be included in the picture,
as well as the instant in which the shot is made.
Along this manual, I have included a series of practical tips marked with
an icon, so you can see what a professional photographer would do in that
situation.

“Washington Reflection”
Photography.

The process of painting with light. Record images on a surface
of light sensitive material based on the principle of the dark
camera, in which you can project an image captured through a
small hole (diaphragm) on to a surface. To store this image the
cameras used up until a few years ago only the sensitive film.
Today, CCD and CMOS sensors are also used in digital cameras
to capture and transfer information on memory cards.
Evolution.
The word photography comes from the Greek phos (light), and
grafis (to design, to write). The intention of the human being to
“capture” time and to freeze it with precision has its first records
in the V century with Aristotle. All the way through Leonardo Da
Vinci in the XVth Century and begining of the XVIth, who, with its
creation of the dark camera, begins to lay out the foundations
of photography.
However, his discoveries were more oriented to the art of
painting so all these inventions around photography had been
forgotten, and had to be re-discovered.
It is until the early 19th century during the transition from
pre-industrial society to industrial society in France when
photography is benefited by the innovations of the time. Also
influential in its re-birth is the positivist philosophy, which states
that every element of nature must be scientifically proven.
The Bourgeoisie, dominant social class of the moment, uses
portraiture as an instrument of social status, to try to improve
the painting of the nobility.
