Greetings from Sol y Canto! We‟d like to give you this guide, which was developed to
accompany our children‟s/family CD (Rounder Kids #82161, 2003) El doble de
amigos/Twice as Many Friends. We thought this would be a great way to offer fun,
educational activities that amplify the themes introduced in the songs. It was also created as
a teaching tool for parents and teachers. Feel free to print it so you can have it handy when
you‟re listening to the music.

¡Saludos de Sol y Canto! Quisiéramos brindarte esta guía que preparamos para acompañar
nuestro disco compacto para niños y familias, El doble de amigos/Twice as Many Friends.
Pensamos que sería una muy buena manera de ofrecer actividades divertidas y educativas
que amplíen los temas introducidos en las canciones. Fue creado también como herramienta
educativa para padres y maestros. Imprímela si quieres para tenerla a mano mientras
escuchas la música.

Do you know how many countries there are in the world where Spanish is the main
language? How about English? Here is a list – see if you can find these countries on the
following maps.

There are many countries where there‟s more than one official language. In Canada, for
example, English and French are the official languages. There are four national languages in
Spain, not just Spanish! In Switzerland, young people study French, German and Italian in
school, and many study other languages as well. In fact, most people in Europe speak more
than one language.

The official language of India is Hindi, but there are more than 30,000,000 Indians who
speak English, and there are more than 1,000 different languages spoken in that country!

Of course people move around, so there are many, many countries where many people speak
other languages than the official ones.

This is how you say the names of the Spanish-speaking countries in Spanish:

que chévere que chévere. . .

Detrás de nuestro patio
está la vía del tren
que pasa varias veces
cada día en su vaivén.
Empieza despacito,
apenas un rumor,
y cuando ya se acerca
en mi casita hay un temblor.

Y los muebles
se ponen a vibrar
y los cuadros
se ponen a bailar
los peluches
empiezan a gatear
y los juguetes
salen a jugar.

Right behind our backyard
there is a railroad track
where many times each day
the train goes by and then comes back.
At first you hardly hear it,
just the slightest sound
but when the train comes near
you feel a trembling in the ground.

and the furniture
starts to move and quake
and the pictures
start to dance and shake
the stuffed animals
crawling every way
and all the toys
come out to play.

There‟s a party
hay parranda
